Crankshaft Seal Flange with Integrated Engine Speed Sensor Wheel The crankshaft seal flange with integrated engine speed sensor wheel is a new feature. The crankshaft seal flange seals the cylinder block on the flywheel end. The seal is made of heat-resistant and nonwearing polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) plastic. The engine speed sensor is a Hall effect sensor mounted in the crankshaft seal housing and consists of a steel ring mounted in rubber. This rubber material contains embedded magnetized metal chips that have an alternate north and south polarity with a large north pole to serve as a reference for the engine speed sensor.
