SG-235 Manualprotective housing is recommended. The preferred installation if vertical iswith the standoff insulator pointing upward.A stuffing gland for the RF and DC cables is provided on the lower edge ofthe weather housing, along with a 1/4-20 stainless steel ground stud. Theantenna connects to the ceramic insulator on top of the weather housing.The SG-235 may be mounted in any position, including inverted, withoutany degradation of performance. If the coupler is to be exposed to long periodsof high vibration, such as aboard helicopters or tug boats, installation ofthe optional shock mounting is recommended.1.6.2 Hot climate and High Temperature InstallationsThe Smartuner may be used in hot climates on a continuous basis if someadditional protection from direct sunlight is provided. The best protectionfor a mobile installation is provided by the QMS (Quick Mounting System)which keeps the antenna coupler outside of a vehicle. Temperatures inside avehicle may exceed 212¡F (100¡ C). If a QMS is not used, keep the coupler inthe shade if possible. Please refer to the diagram in the following section.1.6.3 Extremely Cold Temperature InstallationsYour Smartuner will operate down to specified temperatures. We recommendplacing the Smartuner under some kind of housing other than thecase to prevent heavy build up of ice. If you are mounting on a tower in anextreme climate, a plastic wastebasket (such as those made by Rubbermaidª)makes an excellent weather cover and costs only a few dollars.Long wire antennaSmartuner mounted inside a plastic wastebasket to protect it from extreme heat andheavy icing.
