This annual outdoor performance
of symphonic music, sponsored by the
Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce on Chetola
Resort’s sweeping lawn has become the high point of
Blowing Rock’s summer season. The opening band for
the Symphony will be local favorites, The Harris Brothers.
The Harris Brothers are known for their wonderful
guitar and musical variety. The main event will feature
Symphony of the Mountains, a professional orchestra
of more than 65 musicians from the Tennessee region,
conducted by Cornelia Laemmli Orth. This will be their
third season performing at Symphony By the Lake. To
minute rides on tethered Hot Air Balloons will be available.
These can be purchased for $15 per person. Each
trip can take up to four riders. Balloons will be operating
from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Following the music, a spectacular
fireworks show will cap off a fantastic evening.
The only thing that could possibly make the evening with
your friends more enjoyable would be by purchasing a
patron tent. Patron tents are a great way for your business
to host a staff or customer appreciation party or for individuals
and families to entertain their friends in the comfort
of your their private tent. Bring your own food, have
it catered by your favorite chef or purchase your meals at
the Chetola buffet. You also can provide the beverages
of choice, so the options are endless. And to add to the
fun, patrons can participate in a tent decorating competition
to show off their creativity and ingenuity. This year’s
theme is SILVER! in honor of our 25th anniversary. Silver
Spoons, Silver Hair, Hi Ho Silver! The possibilities
are limited only by your creativity. Great prizes will be
awarded!
Patrons are also granted special parking and can pick up
and drop off at the tent for their set-up and break-down.
Patron tents are popular and are very limited in number,
so call 828-295-7851 to reserve one in advance.
They’re Here!
Well, at long last, summer is finally here! The Chamber
gets many questions this time of year from business
owners inquiring “when are the visitors coming?”
The long standing answer is about two weeks
after most schools in our target markets are out. This
means that the third week of June is when we start to
see more weekday business. Then of course the week
of the fourth of July comes and we generally forget
about when they are coming and just dig in and “git
‘er done”.
All of our businesses, the town, the chamber, the service
organizations, the TDA and visitors centers have
been working diligently for many months to “tee up”
the ball for the season. All the ads are printed, visitor
guides and maps distributed, the flowers are planted
and beautiful, the streets and sidewalks are repaired,
Home to six private, comfortably decorated guest suites, each with its own style and appeal. Located in
the heart of the village, you’re close enough to walk to all of the boutique shops, galleries and restaurants
for which this area is famous. All rooms have private entrances, private baths, high-speed wireless Internet
access, cable TV, refrigerators, and hair dryers. Several rooms have oversized, 2 person whirlpools. Spacious
decks offer large rockers overlooking the garden. Each room has individually controlled heat and A/C. A
continental breakfast each morning is just a part of the experience - the rest can be as private or social
as you choose.
Patron Tents are available at the Symphony
by the Lake at Chetola! While most of the
center section tents were retained by previous
owners, the Chamber has one available
tent in the center section. Several tents are
still available to the left and right of the center
lawn. These are excellent locations for
groups that prefer to enjoy the beauty of the
event without being too crowded. The view
of the symphony is not optimum in these areas
but the sound and the fireworks are still fabulous.
Tent packages begin at $700 for Chamber members
and include a table with cloth, chairs and 13 tickets
for you and your guests.
