<strong>The</strong> <strong>following</strong> <strong>notes</strong> <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> <strong>placed</strong> on all architectural building and tenant improvement plansand identified as “FIRE DEPARTMENT NOTES”.City of Temecula Fire Prevention BureauFIRE DEPARTMENT NOTES1. All code references are to <strong>be</strong> in compliance with Title 24, 2013 edition: Part 1, California Administration Code (CAC) Part 2, California Building Code (CBC) Part 2.5, California Residential Code (CBC) Part 3, California Electrical Code (CEC) Part 4, California Mechanical Code (CMC) Part 5, California Plumbing Code (CPC) Part 9, California Fire Code (CFC)2. Fire Department inspections area required. Schedule all inspections 2 days in advance.Phone (951) 308-6363.3. A detailed letter clearly identifying all intended use(s) and operation(s) of the structure(s)<strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> provided to the fire department along with the submittals for review.4. When the project involves the construction of a new structure or an addition to an existingstructure, plans and documents for fire department access, fire hydrant locations, wateravailability, and fire lane markings <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> submitted to the fire department prior to theapproval of architectural plans. A City of Temecula approved site plan <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> submittedalong with the architectural plan submittal(s).5. This plan review or approval encompasses the building plans only. Fire sprinkler system(s),alarm system(s), underground fire lines or any other fire protection system or required firedepartment permit(s), requires a separate plan submittal and are not encompassed in thisplan review or approval.6. Fire apparatus access roads <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> designed and maintained to support the imposedloads of fire apparatus and <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> with a surface so as to provide all-weather drivingcapabilities. Access roads <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> 80,000 lbs. GVW with a minimum of AC thickness of .25feet. Prior to building construction all locations where structures are to <strong>be</strong> built <strong>shall</strong> have fireapparatus access roads. CFC, Chapter 5 and Temecula Municipal Code.7. Access <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> in compliance with the California Fire Code (CFC), Chapter 5 and TemeculaMunicipal Code. A separate plan submittal is required along with approval by the firedepartment prior to construction.8. Provide 12 inch address numerals on the street address side or the building(s). Addressnumerals <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> a color contrasting to the background. Addresses <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> located so theyarea clearly visible from the main fire department access. CFC Chapter 5 and TemeculaMunicipal Code.9. Provide 6 inch address numerals on each suite(s) or unit(s) front and rear doors. Numerals<strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> a color contrasting to the background. CFC Chapter 5 and Temecula MunicipalCode 15.16.020.

10. Plans of new or modifications to existing fire protection, detection, alarm or monitoringsystem(s) <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> approved by the Temecula Fire Department prior to installation ormodification. A separate plan submittal is required prior to the commencement of any work.CFC, Chapter 9.11. If additions of walls and/or other tenant improvements obstruct or effect coverage orperformance of the fire sprinkler system and/or if any modifications to the fire sprinklersystem is necessary, fire sprinkler tenant improvement plans <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> submitted to the Cityof Temecula Fire Department for approval prior to installation or alteration(s). CFC, Chapter9.12. All fire sprinkler systems are required to <strong>be</strong> monitored at a central, remote or proprietarystation. Fire alarm system(s) <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> provided and plans submitted to the City of TemeculaFire Department for approval prior to installation. CFC, Chapter 9 and Temecula MunicipalCode.13. Every room or space that is an assembly occupancy <strong>shall</strong> have the occupant load of theroom or space posted in a conspicuous place, near the main exit or exit access doorwayfrom the room or space. Posted signs <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> of an approved legible permanent designand <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> maintained by the owner or authorized agent. CFC Chapter 10.14. Signage above main exit doors with one-inch letters is to read, “This door to remainunlocked when occupied”. CFC Chapter 1015. <strong>The</strong> use of the key operated locking device is revoked by the fire code official for due cause.CFC Chapter 1016. Portable fire extinguishers <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> installed per CFC Chapter 9.17. Hazardous exhausts or commercial cooking operations <strong>shall</strong> require an automatic sprinklersystem. Plans <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> submitted to the Temecula Fire Department for review and approvalprior to installation. CFC Chapter 918. Storage, dispensing or use of any flammable or combustible liquids, flammable orcompressed gases, or any other hazardous materials <strong>shall</strong> comply with California Fire CodeRegulations. <strong>The</strong> storage and use of hazardous materials <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> approved by theTemecula Fire Department prior to any materials <strong>be</strong>ing stored, or used on site. A separateplan submittal is required prior to the storage and use of hazardous materials. CFCChapters 1, 21, 22, 23, 24, 35, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 5758, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63 and theTemecula Municipal Code 15.16.02019. All building(s) <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> approved for high-piled storage. High-piled stock <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> approvedby the City of Temecula Fire Dept. prior to materials <strong>be</strong>ing stored on site. A separate plansubmittal is required for high-piled storage. CFC Chapter 32 and Temecula Municipal Code.20. Commercial and industrial occupancies, speculative use buildings with potential for highpiled combustible storage <strong>shall</strong> have an approved automatic sprinkler system per therequirements of NFPA 13 and the Temecula Municipal Code. CFC Chapter 32, TemeculaMunicipal Code and NFPA 13, 2013 edition21. <strong>The</strong> means of egress illumination including the exit discharge <strong>shall</strong> <strong>be</strong> illuminated at all timesthe building space served by the means of egress is occupied.
