List Manager Introduction
The List Manager was originally released as part of MAS v5.2. It was
distributed in the SDUL namespace. However, the data dictionaries,
templates, and protocols were bundled in the Scheduling package inits as
part of SDINI* routines.
Since the initial distribution, other packages, outside of PIMS, have showed
interest in using the utility. As a result, List Manager has been separated
from the Scheduling package and placed in the VALM namespace as its own
package. Numerous enhancements have been made in this VALM version
that will not be included in the SDUL version. By making List Manager a
stand-alone package, it will be easier to enhance and distribute.
The SDUL will still be distributed with the Scheduling package of PIMS for
backwards compatibility. Other packages have already distributed software
that utilizes the SDUL version. The SDUL will eventually be phased out
completely as these other packages convert to VALM. During this interim
phase, however, the functionality of the SDUL version will remain fixed.
