7National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) was established with <strong>the</strong> mission of developingindustries and businesses in India so that <strong>the</strong>y become prime drivers of growth of <strong>the</strong> Indian economy.Over its five decades of existence, NITIE has emerged as an epitome of academic excellence bydeveloping leaders who, through <strong>the</strong>ir innovations, steer <strong>the</strong> changing industrial needs. NITIE iscelebrating its 50th year of inception in 2013.Established under <strong>the</strong> aegis of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and <strong>the</strong> InternationalLabour Organization (ILO), NITIE was set up in 1963 and is as old as <strong>the</strong> evolution span of managementstudies in India. Amongst its policy makers and primary visionaries were luminaries like Dr. VikramSarabhai, Mr. S. 8LibraryINFRASTRUCTUREThe library holds over 63,000 books along with nearly 10,000 backvolumes of journals. It subscribes to over 252 professional andresearch journals. The e-library facilities include: EBSCO, Prowess,Economic Intelligence Services, Proquest, HBR online journal. Thelibrary is also an institutional member of APICS (USA), NYAS (USA),CAPAM (Canada), TIFR (Mumbai), TISS (Mumbai), <strong>the</strong> IITs, <strong>the</strong> IIMs,TERI (New Delhi), and NPC (New Delhi) among o<strong>the</strong>rs.Computing LabClassroomsNITIE has <strong>the</strong> latest computing facilities which complement <strong>the</strong> pedagogyand administrative activities. The IT infrastructure includesa campus-wide LAN, supported by multiple servers, 24x7 internetconnectivity through a 166 Mbps dedicated leased line, 600 workstationsspread across laboratories, classrooms and hostels. NITIEsubscribes to specialized software packages like SPSS, Statistica,SAS, GPSS, Prism etc. Dedicated centers for training on Oracle, SAP,Baan IV Enterprise Tools also exist for imparting practical training.HostelsClassrooms at NITIE are provided with latest teaching aids, whichinclude LCD projectors, networked computers, cordless microphonesand Wi-Fi routers. At <strong>the</strong> same time, we also believe in <strong>the</strong> conventional‘Chalk and Talk’ method. At NITIE, <strong>the</strong> aim of each lecturesession is to stimulate <strong>the</strong> minds of students through interactivediscussion and two-way participation. The new academic block andlibrary with world-class infrastructure and state-of-<strong>the</strong>-artclassrooms is getting ready by <strong>the</strong> end of this year.Hostel rooms at NITIE are reckoned by many to be <strong>the</strong> best amongst India’s premier managementinstitutes. Each hostel room is equipped with attached baths, 24x7 internet connectivityand spacious interiors. A new 16-Floor hostel block is getting ready during this year. It takes a touch of genius—and a lot ofcourage—to move in <strong>the</strong> opposite direction.”Prerana, born in 1995, is <strong>the</strong> annual conclave held at NITIE.
