The <strong>ACS</strong>Board of Directors meeting, open to memberswho wish to participate, will be held inthe New Orleans Ernest N. Morial ConventionCenter from noon to 1 PM on Sunday,April 7.<strong>ACS</strong> COUNCIL. The <strong>ACS</strong> Council meetingwill begin at 8 AM, Wednesday, April 10,at the Hilton Riverside. The meeting willbe preceded by a continental breakfast forcouncilors beginning at 7 AM. Councilorsare asked to check in beginning at 7 AMand proceed to the breakfast area, keepingin mind that the meeting starts promptlyat 8 AM. Space will be available for <strong>ACS</strong>members and nonmembers to observethe council in action. We hope that manywill take advantage of this opportunity tolearn firsthand of the society’s operation.Alternate councilors and division and localsection officers are particularly urgedto attend.COMMITTEE AGENDATHE COMMITTEE ON COMMITTEES hasclarified three types of committee meetings:OPEN. May be attended by any <strong>ACS</strong> member.At these sessions, members are encouragedto voice concerns, issue compliments,offer suggestions, express interestin, or raise questions about matters overwhich the committee has purview. The assumptionis that participation is welcomedand will be orderly and courteous. Onlycommittee members can vote.EXECUTIVE. Attendance and participationare limited to officially appointed/elected committee members, associates,advisers, consultants, staff liaisons, andthe appointed Committee on Committeesliaison. Liaisons from other groups and exofficio and elected councilors may attend;participation by these groups would be atthe invitation of the chair. Only committeemembers can vote.CLOSED. The committee chair must declareany EXECUTIVE session CLOSEDwhen confidential or sensitive personnel,financial, or legal matters of the societyare discussed. At that point, only officiallyappointed/elected committee members,associates, consultants, staff liaisons, andthe appointed Committee on Committeesliaison shall remain in the session. Othersmay stay in the session at the discretionof the chair. Once these discussions havebeen completed, the committee shouldreturn to EXECUTIVE mode.DURING THE open and executive committeemeetings, <strong>ACS</strong> members are givena chance to express their views on issuesunder consideration before these issuesare acted on by the board or the council, orto bring up other subjects that deserve attention.Members are urged to examine theagenda and make known any opinions orideas they may have. If you cannot attendthe particular sessions involved, write tothe officers listed or ask someone attendingthe session to speak on your behalf.
