RAINFALL: CENTRAL WEST/TABLELANDS• Annual rainfall in Orange and Cabonne Shirescomparatively higher than rainfall experiencedthroughout majority of Central West• Orange has average annual rainfall of 931mmcompared to Nyngan in the west of the regionwhich receives 445mm• Orange and Cabonne Shires are climaticallysimilar to the Central Tablelands district and areincluded in the same district by the Bureau ofMeteorology

LAND USE: CENTRAL WEST/TABLELANDS• Central West district characterised by broadscale croppingand grazing• Grazing tends towards natural vegetation in far west withhigher proportion of grazing unimproved pasture• Orange and Cabonne have lower proportion of suchbroadscale cropping with higher proportion of grazingimproved pastures• Orange and Cabonne, like the Central Tablelands, arelarge horticultural production areas.• Landholders in the Orange and Cabonne Shires indicatethat in regards to agricultural production they are bestsuited in the Central Tablelands region.

LAND USE: MURRAY• Murray region has distinct areas of land use,with different types of agricultural production• Grazing of natural vegetation is dominant in thewest of the Murray region, this type of land useis similar to the Western Division of <strong>NSW</strong>• Large areas of irrigated pastures, cropping andhorticulture in the centre of the Murray region• Dryland cropping and horticulture prevalenttowards east.

RECOMMENDATIONS• Revise proposed Central West/ Tablelandsboundaries to include Orange and Cabonne in theCentral Tablelands• Revise proposed Murray and Western Divisionboundaries to split Western <strong>NSW</strong> into two regions:• Far West: Unincorporated Far West, Broken Hillcity, Central Darling Shire, Wentworth Shire,Balranald Shire, Hay Shire and Carathool Shire• North West: Bourke Shire, Cobar Shire, BrewarrinaShire (eastern border to follow current WesternLands Commission boundary through Walgett,Warren and Bogan Shires)
