Because of the relationshipbetween pressure and air flowof radial fans with backward-curved blades,this fan type is not suitable for circularduct fans above diameter 315 mm.KD is a mixed flow fan, i.e. the fanimpeller is a combination between aradial and an axial impeller. It gives considerablymore airflow than radial fans andis the best fan impeller type for 315-500mm ducting. The possibilities for tailormade total solutions is as easy with KDfansas with K-fans.The KD fan is for instance suitable touse for both supply and extract air systemswith large air volumes and medium pressures.Easy installation and removalBrackets are supplied with the fans tomake installation easier. The FK mountingclamp facilitates easy installation andremoval, and prevents the transfer of vibrationto the duct.To protect the motor from overheatingthe KD fans have integral thermalcontacts with leads for connection to amotor protection device.About the external rotor motorAn external motor is essentially constructedlike a normal non-synchronousmotor, with one difference: the statorand the rotor have swapped places. Thestator with its windings is at the centreof the motor, while the rotor is locatedin the casing itself. The motor shaft (connectedto the rotor) turns on sealed ballbearings inside the stator, and the impelleror fan blades are fitted to the rotorcasing. With its design, the motor and fanform a compact unit at the centre of theair stream.Because the external motor’s uniqueconstruction allows it to be cooled bythe transported air, the motor speed canbe controlled by voltage regulation.
