Water should be a major focus. Wherewetlands were the focus of the last decade, waterquality is the next place for our profession tomake a difference. We should try to keep paceor get ahead of civil engineering in areas likestormwater design and evolving trends like raingardens and other forms of low-impact development.Bringing creativity and design to theseenvironmental initiatives can set us apart.How has involvement in ASLA helped toadvance your career?At the local, state, and national level, thereis no greater advocate for our profession thanASLA. Early in my career when I told someonethat I was a <strong>landscape</strong> architect, I honestly feltthat they thought I had a lawn mower in thetrunk of my car. We have come a very long waysince then, and the praise goes to the ASLAorganization and all the people who volunteertheir time to the profession. At the state level, Ibelieve the Design Awards program initiated byTom Tavella has been a great marketing asset toour firm.
