Virginia MusserEditor & Community RelationsDirectorDeborah Laws-LandisLandis Homes is a passionatecommunity! I believe this passion isexpressed in a number of special ways:• Passion for sustaining the strongspiritual and Christ-like nature of thecurrent community, as well asbuilding and enhancing thecommunity in new ways as LinfordGood described in the Spring 2007issue of Horizons. A map showingthis new residential living expansion, including the currently projected sixhybrid homes providing 12 homes ineach building along with enclosedparking on the ground floor, isposted on the Landis Homes website www.landishomes.org.• Passion for serving one another, which is expressed in one of ourguiding values, teamwork. Thisvalue is experienced throughout thecommunity as residents and staffpersons pray for each other. It is alsoseen in the many residents andpersons from the broader Lancastercommunity who give over 50,000hours of volunteer time withinLandis Homes each year. Inaddition, residents give more than15,000 hours of volunteer service toorganizations such as MennoniteCentral Committee and othersthroughout the local community. The Star Comforters program andthe golf tournament are twoexamples among many!• Passion for learning, which isexpressed in our active pursuit ofperson-centered and residentdirectedcare. This is a journey oflearning new ways of workingtogether, un-learning some formerways, and keeping our focus on ourguiding values and our missionwhich seeks to serve aging adults andtheir families by honoring andenriching lives in a community ofChrist-like love.• Passion to pursue new opportunities, which is expressed in our desire tomeet the needs of persons whochoose to live as long as possible intheir current homes through thenewly formed “Landis at Home”ministry launched earlier this year, aswell as our desire to serve personswith varying levels of financialresources. The Landis Homes Boardis strongly supportive of theseinitiatives, and we look forward toexploring and implementing newoptions for senior living inpartnership with others who sharethis vision.• Passion for strengthening ourconnections with the church andlocal congregations. Theseconnections have been very strongsince we were founded as a ministryof Eastern Mennonite Missions andLancaster Mennonite Conference inthe early 1960’s, and which continueto strengthen through ourrelationship as an agency ofLancaster Mennonite Conferenceand a conference-related ministry ofAtlantic Coast Conference. Ourhope is that future communicationswith all congregations of ourresidents may unleash newpartnership opportunities as we seekto support the missional movementwithin the church.Landis Homes offers a well-maintainedcampus located in a beautiful part ofGod’s creation, surrounded by farmland.I believe even this blessing pales incomparison with thebeauty found in thispassionatecommunity of God’speople!Larry ZookPresidentLarry Zook
