PRESENTATIONThe Spanish National Committee on Large Dams (SPANCOLD), the Chinese NationalCommittee on Large Dams (CHINCOLD), the European Club of ICOLD andthe Spanish Institute of Cement and its Applications (IECA), have the honor toinvite you to participate in the 6 th International Symposium on Roller CompactedConcrete (RCC) Dams, which will be held in Zaragoza (Spain) from 23 to25 October 2012.The construction of the first Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) dam in Spain wascompleted in the year 1980. After that, 27 RCC dams have been constructed inthe country, one of which is under construction. But this important development has not only taken place in Spain. The speed ofexecution and the economy of RCC dams, in comparison with those of conventionalconcrete, have been the two main reasons that have led this technique todevelop very quickly in many parts of the world. Today, it is possible to findmore than 400 dams of this type in more than 40 countries, being China, withabout 110 dams in operation, the world's leading country in this technology ofdam construction. For all those reasons, since 1991, two pioneering and leading countries in RCCtechnology, Spain and China, are combining their efforts to prepare the RCCSymposium with a wide range of contents and international scope. This new Symposium will follow those held in Beijing (China), in 1991, Santander(Spain), in 1995, Chengdu (China), in 1999, Madrid (Spain), 2003, and Guiyang(China), in 2007.The significant development of RCC dams constructed in recent years and thecharacteristics of this material, made necessary to organize a new symposium inwhich it will be possible to analyze and discuss the major developments reached, the new trends and the future of this technology. This 6 th International Symposium on Roller Compacted Concrete Dams is sponsoredby the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA). Theorganizers are the Spanish National Committee on Large Dams (SPANCOLD) andthe Chinese National Committee on Large Dams (CHINCOLD) along with theEuropean Club of ICOLD (EURDAMS) and the Spanish Institute of Cement and itsApplications (IECA), with the collaboration of the International Commission onLarge Dams (ICOLD) and the Professional Association of Civil Engineers (CICCP).A post Symposium study tour has been organized departing from Zaragoza andending in Bilbao (October 28th), to connect with HYDRO 2012.
