Kennedy becomes president and isthe first Roman Catholic to be elected. In hisinaugural address, President Kennedydeclares, "The torch has been passed to a'new generation."INovember ^—^—In its May 7, 1961, Dedication booklet under the propheticheadline, "Future Stars, "<strong>Moeller</strong> introduces its firstfootball team. The caption reads, "Under the driving forceof Mr. Faust, the fighting Crusaders compiled a respectable4-4 record in their first season on the gridiron. The spiritand determination exhibited by the team throughout theseason should indicate the beginning of a long history offootball supremacy."<strong>Moeller</strong>'s Namesake:<strong>Archbishop</strong> Henry<strong>Moeller</strong> (1849-1925)was one of theoutstanding figuresin the Catholichierarchy of theUnited States.A native ofCincinnati, hereceived respectand recognitionat the NorthAmerican Collegeof Rome, winningthe highest honorsin history, the firstthree prizes intheology, and thegold medalfor excellence.Mueller's first basketball team: In the May 7, 1961, dedication booklet, the caption reads, "TJjougb hampered byinjuries and other difficulties, <strong>Moeller</strong>'s first basketball team had a very successful season under the expert directionof Mr. William Daily... Perhaps the best game of the season was a 42-40 victory over highly rated Norwood. Anotherfine game was the victory over powerful Roger Bacon. Playing host to this GCL team, the Crusaders played apossession-type game, taking only the best shots to defeat the Spartans by the slim margin of 17-15.
