volunteers bring change to those who need it mostOut of 15 Municipal-owned utilities that operate in Guatemala, theInternational Foundation is currently providing support to four, includingIxcan, and continues to look at ways to assist the other utilities. Togetherwith U.S. member co-ops, the Foundation is assisting in the following ways:• In 2005, Kandiyohi Power <strong>Cooperative</strong> in Minnesota and the Municipalityof Zacapa formed a sister co-op partnership. Kandiyohi is sharingknowledge and sending much-needed equipment so Zacapa cansucceed in providing safe and reliable electricity.• Six linemen from Singing River <strong>Electric</strong> Power Assn. in Mississippi helpedrepair and renovate a section of the distribution system in Jalapa.• Volunteers from Illinois <strong>Rural</strong> <strong>Electric</strong> <strong>Cooperative</strong> and Duck River <strong>Electric</strong>Membership Corp. in Tennessee have worked alongside the linemen inGuastatoya. Not only did they help repair several kilometers of faulty line,but they also provided hands-on advice on safety issues.
