CFAB Newsletter Summer 2012Record Breaking Golf Dayand Gala Dinner!The 6th bi-annual Golf Tournamentonce again took place at themagnificent Stoke Park Golf Clubin Buckinghamshire on Monday28th May 2012. The focus of theday was to raise money for CFAB’swork in the prevention of childabduction.The weather was fantastic and thesun shone as 19 teams - joined byLadies professionals - battled it outon one of the most challengingand beautiful courses in thecountry. We were joined by teamsfrom Merrill Lynch, GoldmanSachs, Julius Baer, Credit Suisseand Vestra Wealth to name but afew.After a delicious brunch the teamsset off in the glorious sunshine. Afabulous round of golf was followedby a champagne reception andgala dinner with entertainmentfeaturing a Magician and musicfrom Fantasia.Steve Rider handed out theprizes to the winning teams andindividuals and ensured that alively auction made a considerablecontribution to the total amountraised. The raffle was incrediblypopular this year and there weresome brilliant prizes on offerincluding designer leather wallets,top London restaurant vouchersand Chanel perfume sets.We were thrilled to have the BroadGallery with us once again to runthe Silent Auction and they hadsome beautiful prints on displayfrom artists such as Picasso,Chagall, Matisse and Miro.Photographers:Elaine MaysonWe are incredibly grateful to thesponsors of the event Credit Suisseand the generosity of all thosewho supported the day.The event raised an incredible£100,000 for the charity and wewould like to sincerely thank Drand Mrs Sattaripour, Steve Rider,Suzanne Harding, the organisingcommittee and sponsors formaking it such a memorable event.Page 3

CFAB Newsletter Summer 2012CFAB Leads the Way at the ISS International Council MeetingThe Biennial meeting of the global International SocialService Network took place in Banff, Canada between 21-25 May. Representatives of social welfare agencies frommany Nations covering all fivr Continents gathered in theshadow of the Rocky Mountains for five days of intensediscussions. The theme of the Council Meeting was‘Meeting the Challenges of the Modern Transnational Era’and CFAB’s Chairman, CEO and Operations Manager wereall present. Our Chairman Doug Lewis is the current Chairof the International Governing Board and oversaw themany Plenary Sessions.Our CEO Andy Elvin attended all the plenaries as wellas meetings with the Directors and CEO’s from aroundthe world. These meetings focussed on achieving bestoutcomes for children separated from their families byinternational borders. Andy was also asked to updatethe network on CFAB’s success in accessing non statutoryfunding and so reduce reliance on government funding inthis time of global austerity. Over the week there were manySeminars and voted amongst the very best was the onefrom Operations Manager Meena Enawalla which focussedon the issues surrounding the increased prevalence ofSurrogacy around the world.across national borders.Although there were many challenging sessions duringthe meeting, especially in trying to reconcile the differentcultures and work-related experiences amongst the hugelyvaried delegates, the group were unanimous in agreeinga set of final Resolutions relating to the future. Mostimportantly the International Network committed itselfto a total review of its future Strategic Direction and thedemands it places on the central Secretariat in Geneva.It was recognised that above all else our organisationneeds to become stronger so that CFAB and other Nationalagencies can meet the increased demand for our specialisedservices that has occurred as a direct result of globalisationand its resulting extraordinary escalation in trans-nationalrelationships involving children and families.Our sincere thanks to the Canadian Branch of our networkfor the superb way this global meeting was organised.The meeting had a particularly high-profile across NorthAmerica and the Keynote Speakers included MinisterHancock from the Canadian Government and AmbassadorJacobs from the US State Department. Many other NGOsattended as observers, as did numerous State social-welfareorganisations.
