Mateer, ofPrinceton, Chairman of the first Executive Committee, gives a conciseaccount of its organization, to which we append 8. ltst of the places ofmeeting.]II The movement, of which the present cODvention is an outcome,originated about a year ago among the students of the Theological8eminary at Princeton, and sprang from a desire for some co-operationof theological students in promoting the cause of missions. Atabout the same time, the students of Hartford Theological Seminary,moved by 8. similar impulse, addressed a circular letter upon the sametopic to the students of various seminaries. After considerable correspondencebetween the members of different institutions, the formationof nn Inter-Seminary Convention was deemed the most feasible ofthe various plans sugge!:lted for the accomplishment of the ends inview. In response to a letter s~nt from Princeton, a preliminary Conferencewas held in New York City, April 9th, 1880, at which twentytwodelegates, representing twelve seminaries were present. Otherseminaries "ent letters approving the general plan. This PreliminaryConference adopted tl. resolution to hold an Inter-Seminary Conventionfor the discussion of themes bearing on the relation which we are tosustain to the work of Forei~n and IIome MissiJns, whether we laboras missionaries abroad Or as pastors at home. An Executive Committeewas apPOinted with authority to make all necessary arrangements forthe boldiug of euch a convention, to which it was ahm instructed tomake its report.
