This autumn, poetry takes centerstage with a series of poetry readings <strong>and</strong> a poetry writing workshop.For centuries, poetry has had a powerful influence on <strong>the</strong> world of art, inspiring a vast pool ofartists to transform <strong>the</strong> written word into a visual form of art. Dali looked to Dante, Turner toHomer, <strong>and</strong> Czech artist Eva Zm<strong>at</strong>likova to Rumi. Eva Zm<strong>at</strong>likova: <strong>Poetry</strong> in Stone, a new exhibitcoming to <strong>the</strong> Lovel<strong>and</strong> <strong>Museum</strong>/<strong>Gallery</strong> on October 27, showcases <strong>the</strong> influence poetry hashad on Zm<strong>at</strong>likova’s body of work as well as her career as an artist. The Lovel<strong>and</strong><strong>Museum</strong>/<strong>Gallery</strong> has chosen to honor this longst<strong>and</strong>ing chain of influence by offering <strong>the</strong> publican opportunity to connect with <strong>the</strong>ir inner poet laure<strong>at</strong>e <strong>and</strong> celebr<strong>at</strong>e <strong>the</strong> work of o<strong>the</strong>rauthors.All poetry readings <strong>and</strong> book signing events are free of charge, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> poetry writing workshopis available <strong>at</strong> a discounted r<strong>at</strong>e to <strong>Museum</strong> members. A n<strong>at</strong>ive New Engl<strong>and</strong>er, Aldrich lived in Lovel<strong>and</strong> for twenty years <strong>and</strong> earned anMFA in <strong>Poetry</strong> from Vermont College. She taught English <strong>and</strong> Humanities <strong>at</strong> Aims CommunityCollege <strong>and</strong> currently lives in Portl<strong>and</strong>, Maine where she teaches English.Place in <strong>Poetry</strong> Workshop: How Where We Live Inhabits Us

The <strong>Museum</strong> will reveal a Civil War memorabilia display case <strong>and</strong> host severalp<strong>at</strong>riotic programs close to Veteran’s Day. During this community-centered poetry eventfacilit<strong>at</strong>ed by M.D. Freidman, individuals are asked to share poems <strong>and</strong> writings inspired by<strong>the</strong>mes of war <strong>and</strong> peace, freedom, honor, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> American Dream.
