Our History • 1981 - started as Arco Solar Pte Ltd (subsidiary of Atlantic Richfield Oil Co.) • 1987 - became Showa Arco Solar Pte Ltd (joint venture with Showa Shell Oil, Japan) • 1990 - became Siemens Showa Solar Pte Ltd (Arco solar sold its solar division to Siemens) • 2002 - became Shell Solar Pte Ltd (Siemens sold solar division to Shell) • 2006 - became SolarWorld Asia Pacific Pte Ltd 22
Singapore Market Singapore’s key government agency (EDB) is moving proactively to develop solar power know-how. As quoted from a newspaper article dated 20 th April 2007, “Solar is a cornerstone of the EDB’s drive to develop Singapore as a centre for clean energy.” Dr. Tony Tan (Singapore’s Chairman of National Research Foundation) visited SolarWorld’s manufacturing plant in the week of 16 th April 2007. 23
