<strong>Creating</strong> <strong>an</strong> <strong>Active</strong> <strong>Wales</strong>Evidence indicates that the following types of intervention c<strong>an</strong> increase physical activitylevels in children:• play, including regular independent outdoor play;• family-focussed or peer-support based activity;• providing fun <strong>an</strong>d social opportunities;• well delivered <strong>an</strong>d appropriately designed Physical Education;• broad variety of developmental <strong>an</strong>d age appropriate physical activity opportunitiesdesigned in partnership with children <strong>an</strong>d young people;• active travel;• school-based activities, including those outside Physical Education.Priorities• Ensuring that there is access to opportunities for high quality play thatis physically active.• <strong>Creating</strong> opportunities for families to undertake physical activitytogether, particularly low income families.• Developing whole school cluster approaches that engage the widercommunity.• Ensuring interventions are enjoyable <strong>an</strong>d designed in consultationwith children <strong>an</strong>d young people to meet their needs.• Prioritise interventions that encourage the development of physicalliteracy <strong>an</strong>d participation in physical activity by the least active.• Increasing physical activity in post-16 educational setting.35
