<strong>Creating</strong> <strong>an</strong> <strong>Active</strong> <strong>Wales</strong><strong>Sport</strong> for allStrategic aimTo increase participation in sport, by all sectors of the population.The focus of this section is to develop opportunities to increase the number of peopleplaying sport <strong>an</strong>d the frequency <strong>an</strong>d st<strong>an</strong>dard at which they play it. Whille sport c<strong>an</strong> helpsupport wider social <strong>an</strong>d economic agendas, the primary focus of this pl<strong>an</strong> will be to use<strong>Sport</strong> for All as a me<strong>an</strong>s of increasing population physical activity levels for health benefits.The actions in this section have a direct link to the Perform<strong>an</strong>ce <strong>an</strong>d Excellence Reviewthat has been completed. The Welsh Assembly Government <strong>an</strong>d the <strong>Sport</strong>s Councilfor <strong>Wales</strong> are working to develop <strong>an</strong> Action Pl<strong>an</strong> for implementation from April 2010.The Perform<strong>an</strong>ce <strong>an</strong>d Excellence Pl<strong>an</strong> will show the links to <strong>Creating</strong> <strong>an</strong> <strong>Active</strong> <strong>Wales</strong>.The evidence suggests the following elements should form part of sporting interventionsto increase participation:• <strong>Sport</strong> for children <strong>an</strong>d young people needs to include a diverse r<strong>an</strong>ge of affordablecompetitive <strong>an</strong>d non-competitive opportunities that cater for children <strong>an</strong>d young peopleof all abilities <strong>an</strong>d fitness levels. There should be <strong>an</strong> emphasis on fun <strong>an</strong>d enjoyingthe social aspects of participating, especially for activities targeting girls.48
