After water heater and system water has cooled to lessthan 80°F, turn water heater on and observe the returnwater temperature from the system. If the return watertemperature rises to above 120°F in less than five(5) minutes, leave the bypass balancing valve fullyclosed. If return water temperature is not above 120°For it takes a longer period than five (5) minutes to riseabove 120°F, slowly open bypass balancing valve.Continue to open bypass balancing valve so that returnwater temperature is above 140°F. Note that if thetemperature does not rise above 140°F with the bypassvalve fully open, slowly begin to close balancingvalve in the system and return piping until appliancereturn water temperature is above 140°F. Turn off andallow water heater and system water to cool to lessthan 80°F. Turn on and note return water temperatureto the water heater. Confirm that water temperaturerises above 120°F in less than five (5) minutes. If not,continue to open bypass balancing valve.U. When water adjustment is complete, allow waterheater to operate and confirm proper operation. Placesystem control back in normal operation.WARNINGThere is a hot water scald potential if the thermostat is set too high.Should overheating occur or the gas supply fail to shut off, turn off the manual gas control valve to theappliance.Do not operate water heater without air filter in place and securely fastened and sealed. Replacement airfilters must be purchased from authorized Thermal Solutions representatives. Part numbers are listed inFigure 20.Do not readjust gas regulator, bypass water valve, system return water valve, system supply water valve,pressure switch or water flow switch from setting determined during system start-up. IX. Service and MaintenanceDANGERThis water heater uses flammable gas, high voltage electricity, moving parts, and very hot waterunder high pressure. Assure that all gas and electric power supplies are off and that the watertemperature is cool before attempting any disassembly or service. More than one gas valve isused on the water heater. Assure that all gas valves are closed off before attempting any disassemblyor service.Do not attempt any service work if gas is present in the air in the vicinity of the water heater.Never modify, remove or tamper with any control device.WARNINGThis water heater must only be serviced and repaired by skilled and experienced service technicians.If any controls are replaced, they must be replaced with identical models.Read, understand and follow all the instructions and warnings contained in all the sections of thismanual.If any electrical wires are disconnected during service, clearly label the wires and assure that thewires are reconnected properly.Never jump out or bypass any safety or operating control or component of this water heater.Read, understand and follow all the instructions and warnings contained in ALL of the componentinstruction manuals.Assure that all safety and operating controls and components are operating properly before placingthe water heater back in service.The service instructions contained in this manual are in addition to the instructions provided bythe manufacturer of the water heater components. Follow component manufacturer’s instructions.Component manufacturer’s instructions were provided with the water heater. Contactcomponent manufacturer for replacement if instructions are missing. Do not install, start up,operate, maintain or service this appliance with out reading and understanding all of the componentinstructions. Do not allow the appliance to operate with altered, disconnected or jumperedcomponents. Only use replacement components identical to those originally supplied by ThermalSolutions.CAUTIONLabel all wires prior to disconnection when servicing controls.
