Also plannedis a 900 square-foot chapel on the ground floor,renovation of the current science classrooms andexpansion/renovation of the guidance department.BACCALAUREATEMASSMay 29GRADUATIONMay 30GOLF OUTINGJune 18HOMECOMINGOctober 3The renovated guidance and counseling center, whencompleted, will be named in honor of Sr. Mardelle,longtime head of the department. “At <strong>Marian</strong>, we’reperson-centered. We care about people. Not onlyto succeed, but to be fulfilled as a person. This newguidance and counseling center will help our studentsas they prepare for the future,” said Sr. Mardelle, nowretired and living in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.Superintendent Tom Landers commented,“We couldn’t be happier to honor Sr. Mardelle by naming the newguidance center after her. She had such a remarkable impact onthe students at <strong>Marian</strong>. This is an honor she richly deserves.” Sr.Mardelle replied, “I thank God for any good that I may have doneduring my years at <strong>Marian</strong>.” To fund the $5 million expansionplan, the “Golden Anniversary” Capital Campaign was launchedin January. “New York, New York” was truly a topdrawerevent at the Holiday Inn in Crystal Lake onMarch 8. Honorary Chairpersons Mike and Erin ’83Smith, Crystal Lake, and General Chairpersons Garyand Cheryl Rabine, Johnsburg, worked to insure awonderful evening for all. The 384 guests enjoyeda delicious meal before furiously bidding on live andsilent auction items. The proceeds of over $145,000will go toward financial aid, department programs andparent support group expenses.Erin Smith drew the winning raffle tickets with cashprizes going to Len Martinez ’66, Katey (Sullivan)Lawrence ’87, former <strong>Marian</strong> parent Tom Loizzo, andButch Schnulle. Ray Benoy, Woodstock, <strong>Marian</strong>’schief raffle ticket seller, sold three of the winningtickets. Bob spokeof his experiences on his10 mission trips to Haiti.He said, “It’s an honorto be the hands andfeet of our Lord and doHis work.” A receptionand a tour of the schoolfollowed the Mass. TheSuperintendent Tom Landers congratulatesalumni float was full ofBob Welter ’70, the 2007 DistinguishedAlumni Recipient.honorees in the paradeon Friday afternoon.Alumni found their way to the alumni tent and enjoyedthe new bleachers at George Harding Field. The tent waspacked all night, especially when the heavens opened up andpoured down on the game watchers.Hall of Fame Inductees included Mike Eisele ’81 who holdsthe school record in the Class A IHSA State ChampionshipMeet for the Boys CrossCountry Team. In football he led his team in receiving andtouchdowns. Dennis is a Top 5 record holder for receivingat the University of Cincinnati.Cynthi (Parker) Lysne ’95, was a State Champion ingymnastics and also participated in Track & Field. In Track& Field she was a State Qualifier in 1992 and 1994.Dirk Stanger ’93, holds 4 records in football as starting varsityquarterback. He was named Northwest Suburban ConferencePlayer of the Year and Northwest Herald Football Player ofthe Year in 1992, and was a member of the 1994 University ofWisconsin Rose Bowl Champion Team.Coach David Proffitt was Head Football coach at <strong>Marian</strong>for 10 years with 3 conference championships and 7 playoffappearances. In 1995 he led the Hurricanes to the StateSemi-Final game.Coach Gregg Wikierak is in his 29th year of coachingbaseball and his 19th at <strong>Marian</strong>. His teams have won twoNorthwest Suburban Championships, one Suburban <strong>Catholic</strong>Championship and seven Regional Championships. He wasNorthwest Herald Baseball Coach of the Year 4 times.Coach Terry Stanger has coached <strong>Marian</strong> football teamsthat reached the playoffs 13 out of 15 seasons. He wasassistant coach on the 1983, 1986, 1987 and 1989 StateChampionship Teams, as well as the 1985 and 2006 StateRunner-Up Teams.John Guanci, Jr. has been a friend of <strong>Marian</strong> for years,especially during the 1980’s and was very active in theBooster Club in the 70’s and 80’s.Mike Eisele ’81

The bleachers hold up to1,500 and include a large press box. GLENN PINNAUIS NHS ADVISER OF THE YEARTen NHS officers attended the NHS Leadership Conference in Atlantain November. The <strong>Marian</strong> chapter was honored with the OutstandingService Project Award for last year’s book drive, which collected morethan 10,000 books for the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin MaryElementary <strong>School</strong> in Chicago. Dr. Glenn Pinnau merited the Adviserof the Year Award, which is granted to only one NHS adviser fromamong 22,000 worldwide chapters.NATIONAL MERIT WINNERSNine members of the senior class received special recognition inthe prestigious National Merit Scholarship Competition. TheresaReckamp was named a semifinalist. The eight commended studentsare Kara Bussey, Louis Gioia, Carol Henning, Alissa Lee, Alyssa Miller,Kelly Paton, Conrad Smith and Margaret Tully.HOMECOMING 2008IS OCTOBER 3GIRLSGOLFFor the second straightyear junior Tori Stock wasnamed the NorthwestHerald Girls Golfer of theYear. Natalie signed with NCAA D-1 SouthCarolina-Upstate to play golf next year.FOOTBALL STANDOUT -SEAN CWYNARNotre Dame Coach Charlie Weis at <strong>Marian</strong> visiting with Sean Cwynar andCoach Ed Brucker.Senior Sean Cwynar is the first area player to be invited to playin the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the most prestigious highschool all-star football game held in January. Also at the AmericanBowl game was head coach Ed Brucker, quarterback Jon Budmayr,and lineman Cody O’Neil.Sean was named IHSA Player of the Year for the state of Illinoisand will be playing football next season for Notre Dame.

He was recently recognizedfor pulling a man off of railroad tracks seconds before a trainsped by, thereby saving the man’s life. Greg was valedictorian of hisPolice Academy class and served five years on the S.W.A.T. team.CLASS OF 1990MARK HATTAS, Naperville, owns Geneca, which has won threemajor awards in 2007. Mike played on <strong>Marian</strong>’s laststate championship team (1989) and coached three state championshipsat Stillman Valley (1999, 2000 and 2003).

She taught at St. Mary’s Middle<strong>School</strong> for six years before coming to <strong>Marian</strong>. Andrea said, “As a<strong>Marian</strong> <strong>Central</strong> alumni, I am overwhelmed with the opportunity thatI have been given to teach here.
