2010 NRVHBA Annual
Inaugural Gala
Saturday, February 27
After a couple of snow delays the NRVHBA
Inaugural Gala went off without a hitch in
February. The Annual Inaugural Gala is a semiformal
event to recognize the new officers,
board of directors, and NRVHBA Award winners.
The reception was at the Blacksburg Country
Club followed by a program, dinner and entertainment.
The Inaugural Gala 2011 is being held on Saturday, January 29,
at 6 p.m. at the Inn at Virginia Tech. A beautiful evening of dinner,
cocktails, and dancing is being coordinated by the Fellowship
Committee. The theme is ‘Bringing in the New.’ The Gala is the
time for Association awards to be announced and new officers to
be inaugurated.
MARKETING
Marketing Committee
Marketing has taken on an increased role in our
association as board members realize the value
of that investment. The strategy has been to
start small and demonstrate success as measured
by increased attendance and memberships.
Many marketing methods were free, such
as an emphasis on referrals and word of mouth.
Publicity also played a role; these no-cost efforts
included numerous press releases and free
events such as trade shows, public speaking opportunities,
and a ribbon cutting by the Chamber
at our new office. The idea of relationship
marketing brought about increased member
contacts. Communications moved from hard
copies of The Nailer newsletter and email to
utilizing Constant Contact and Evite as primary
tools. Specifically, using Evite to publicize events
has been a great success. It makes the RSVP simpler
for members as all they have to do is click
yes or no. In addition, by being able to see who
else is coming to the event, it creates a buzz not
found with telephone or email RSVPs. Evite also
allows you to issue reminders, make changes,
and post after-event photos in a graphically
appealing way. This ‘annual report’ combined
editions of the newsletter into one year-round
slick publicity piece.
NRVHBA made a leap into newspaper, television,
and radio advertising through its partnership
with the Virginia Building Code Officials Association
(VBCOA) and the award-winning “Better
Building. Safer Homes.” campaign. Geared toward
consumers, the commercials emphasized
the importance of investigating contractors
before hiring them. Previously, only Home Expo
advertising was featured in mass media.
All of these vehicles enhanced the image of the
association and the building industry within our
community.
