LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
What’s In It For Me?
“Get involved, voice your
opinion, make a difference”
That’s the question we are asked at the New
River Valley Home Builders Association on
a daily basis. My idea of the answer is probably
quite a bit different from yours. I view that
question as an opportunity to make the future
of our trades better.
History has taught us
that a chorus greatly
outweighs a single
voice. Each of you are
needed to make the voice of New River Valley
Home Builders Association stronger -- locally,
statewide and on a national level, to help adopt
regulations and standards of our industry. We
need everyone.
I have been involved with Home Builders Association
for the past six years. I have seen
the economy at its best, as well as at its worst
with the current downturn we are experiencing.
Although the future may seem bleak at this
point, the value of being a member of the Home
Builders Association is something everyone,
no matter whether you are a subcontractor,
appraiser, loan officer, or insurance underwriter,
can benefit from.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our
outgoing president, Chris Pfohl for his commitment
to the ideals, standards and leadership
over the past two years. With Chris at the helm,
we have built a stronger organization.
Looking forward to the future, we can walk
the course of optimism and excitement as we
continue to build the quintessential “American
Dream. ” The “American Dream” has not
changed that much from times past. Individuals
and families want quality-built houses to call
home. Building houses is not the only means
for us in this Association, we are building communities.
Southwest Virginia is one of the most
beautiful parts of this great nation. Each house
or business we build allows a visitor to become a
neighbor and a stranger to become a friend.
In the year ahead, I hope to see our entire Association
become more involved. We all need
to become aware of what the housing industry
in our area is doing; without each other a home
will become no more. Just imagine waking up
one morning and finding out that you had no
home. With the economy in the state is in, you
might find just that. We, in the Association,
need to work with one another to make sure this
doesn’t happen in our community.
Get involved, voice your opinion, make a
difference; otherwise, the “American Dream” may
end!
