GDP per personNov 29th 2007From The Economist print editionWith the exception of tiny Luxembourg, Norway has the highest GDP per head of the 30 mainly rich countries in the OECD, according to newcalculations from the Paris-based organisation. Higher oil revenues raised Norway's GDP per head to 164% of the OECD average by 2005, anincrease of 19 percentage points from 2002. Comparisons are based on purchasing-power parity, which takes account of price differences betweencountries. On that basis, living standards in Britain, Germany, Japan, France and Italy are all close to the OECD average. America's income perhead is comfortably above that level. Poland, Mexico and Turkey are the club's poorest members, with incomes per head of less than half theaverage.Copyright © 2007 The Economist Newspaper and The Economist Group.
