Faculty Advisers: Dr. Mohamed Samir Hefzy
and Dr. Mehdi Pourazady
Client Adviser/Sponsor: Ms. Angie Hiser of The Ability Center of
Greater Toledo and The National Science Foundation
Students: Jason Abbas, Gregory Land and Robert Maracic
This team developed a device to assist a client in loading
and unloading a wheelchair from a van without assistance
from others.
Design of a Side-loading Trailer
Faculty Adviser: Dr. Phil White
Client Advisers/Sponsors: Lee Russell, Ron Roberts
and Gwen Roberts of KPGL Consulting Inc.
Students: Tyler Butcher, Craig Friedberg and Conrad Miller
This fully enclosed trailer opens from the side for fast loading
and unloading. The team analyzed the structural integrity of
the existing, back-loading trailer, determined safety measures,
and sized components for manufacturability and cost savings.
Development of an Envelope Loading
Robot for the Mass Production of
Envelopes
Faculty Advisers: Dr. Phillip White and Dr. Hongyan Zhang
Client Adviser/Sponsor: Mr. Norm Shapiro of Envelope Mart USA
Students: Peter montion, Justin Porter and micah lobdell
This automated envelope packing system is integrated
with existing production machines and can package 1,100
envelopes into reusable plastic containers to help reduce
operator fatigue and cardboard waste.
Faculty Adviser: Dr. Hongyan Zhang
Client Adviser/Sponsor: Mr. Jon Eaton of Emdeon
Students: Nick Spanos, John Decker and Chris Reynard
Team members designed, built and tested a device that
stacks empty letter trays from a conveyor belt onto a pallet.
The design incorporates an end effector and a robotic arm
to move each letter tray with precision.
Development of a Wind Turbine
Experiment
Faculty Adviser: Dr. Sorin Cioc
Client Adviser/Sponsor: Dr. Sorin Cioc
Students: Andrew Jones, Kenneth Deszell and Paul Shedron
The group designed and built an experimental lab setup
to study the influence of the following parameters on the
turbine output: rotor diameter, blade aerodynamic profile,
number of blades, blade pitch, rotation speed, turbine
orientation, etc.
