Significantinvestments on modern machinery park andhuman resources reached the highest level innineties. Today, the textile and clothing industryis the most outward-oriented industry that cancompete with other countries in internationalmarkets in terms of high quality and wide rangeof products. At present, Turkey produces aboutUS$ 30 billion worth of textile and clothingproducts and exports about US$ 20 billion worthof them.Since the Turkish textile and clothing industryis a world giant in terms of production andexports, the sector needs textile and clothingsupplies in large quantity and in wide variety.Therefore, the textile and clothing suppliesindustry, which was established to meet theneeds of the domestic textile and clothingindustry, has shown significant developmentand now serves the world textile and clothingindustry as well. TEXTILE AND CLOTHING SUPPLIES IN TURKEYand clothing supplies manufacturers are locatedin İstanbul. The rest are in İzmir, Bursa, Denizli,Gaziantep and Kayseri.Today, consumers are showing increasing concernfor health and environmental issues and demandingproducts that do not cause health and environmentalrisks. Since many textile and clothing supply productssuch as lace, elastic, labels, tapes, ribbons are indirect contact with the skin, the reliability of theseproducts is as important for human health as otherparts of clothing or textile products. Being aware ofthese trends, Turkish textile and clothing suppliesproducers are now becoming much more sensitiveto health and the environment, and are adaptingthemselves to developments in international marketstowards healthier and more environment-friendlyproducts by adopting environment managementsystems and obtaining eco-labels.
