About CHAP—Serving Homeschoolers in Pennsylvania Since 1986.CHAP Statement of FaithThe Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God andconstitutes His completed and final revelation to man. The Bible,in its original autographs, is without error in whole and in part.God has existed from all eternity in three persons: God the Father,God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ was God inhuman flesh being fully God and fully man, except without sin.All men are in violation of God’s righteous requirements and Hisholy character both by nature and act, and are therefore underHis wrath and just condemnation. The central purpose of the coming of Jesus Christ was to paythe penalty for man’s sin through His substitutionary atoningdeath on the cross, the successful accomplishment of which wasattested to by His subsequent visible, bodily resurrection so thatwe can enter into an intimate, personal relationship with Himand know the love, forgiveness, and mercy of God throughJesus Christ our Lord.Salvation is offered as a gift, free to the sinner. This gift must beresponded to by individual faith, not trusting in any personal workswhatsoever, but in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ alone.CHAP Mission StatementCHAP, the Christian Homeschool Association of Pennsylvania, exists to support and encourage home educators. In order to facilitate such an outreach byCHAP, the board has established a sister organization calledthe CHAP Foundation. 4. How does membership relate to the new CHAP onlinebookstore? One of our goals is to support our vendors, so weencourage you to chat with them this weekend, and give themthe honor due by purchasing your products from them sincethey have served you with their expertise. There are manyexcellent reasons to purchase at the convention: you can handleand see what you are buying, ask the “experts” for their adviceregarding curriculum and homeschooling issues, avoid shippingcosts, take your items home with you, make it worth the vendors’time and effort to offer their services at the convention, andenable CHAP to afford the expense of bringing the conventionto central Pennsylvania. If you are unable to find what you want at the convention andfor needs throughout the year, take a look at our new bookstore. Many of our vendors do, or will eventually, take part in it aswell, so when they have returned home, you can help them bypurchasing after the convention season. For after-convention shopping, using our bookstore also assistshome education across the nation. CHAP, similar organizations inother states, the National Alliance for Christian Home EducationLeadership, and HSLDA, all receive a small percentage of thesales generated with the goal of growing homeschooling in ournation and world. After a year delay, we finally have a CHAP bookstore, inconjunction with GPA and HSLDA. The prices are competitivewith other online bookstores for any non-member shopper andeven better discounts are available for CHAP bookstore members(see below) and HSLDA members.Last year our plan was that CHAP members would receive agreater discount in the bookstore than CHAP affiliates, and westated that this would be a CHAP membership benefit. Due tomany unforeseen circumstances and development delays, thebookstore establishment took much longer than we anticipated. As you may recall, we issued a coupon in one of our magazinesfor members to receive a CD of their choice at the conventionto help compensate for this delay. (The actual coupon must bepresented and it is redeemable at the convention only.)However, the benefits of current and past CHAP membership isvalued at much more than the membership fee, as you can seeabove. The cost of the magazine and the HSLDA membershipalone is worth at least $25, other benefits not withstanding.Since this is so, and CHAP members were and are still gainingmore benefits than affiliates, we decided to open the bookstoreto a wider market. As we worked out the final details for the bookstore, it becameapparent that everyone involved would benefit more if thebookstore had it’s own membership and that it be as inclusiveas possible. Even a non-affiliate person may purchase from thebookstore, but with a less discount. Thus, membership for thebookstore is different than the CHAP membership. All CHAPaffiliates (which includes CHAP members) as defined above areautomatically considered members of the CHAP bookstore and areeligible for the discount. Check it out at www.gpasmartstore.com.5. How Is Membership in CHAP Related to the HSLDADiscount? Membership is for individuals; affiliation is forsupport groups, co-ops, or non-members associated with CHAP.Non-CHAP members are referred to as affiliates. Membershipis $25. Support group affiliation is free and requires the supportgroup leader registering the support group or co-op. The supportgroup or co-op leader can do this online. A person can qualifyfor the HSLDA discount as a member of an affiliated supportgroup or co-op with CHAP. There are now two ways to get theHSLDA discount. You can qualify for the HSLDA discount bybeing a member of CHAP or by being a member of a CHAPaffiliated support group or co-op.Table of ContentsAbout CHAP............................................................1Convention Information.........................................2Convention Ins and Outs........................................3Special Guest Speakers...........................................4Workshop Speakers.................................................4Speakers’ Contact Information..............................7Workshops Descriptions.........................................8Teen Track..............................................................15Farm Show Map....................................................17Vendor Hall Map...................................................18Vendor Listings:By Booth Assignment.........................................20By Category.........................................................21Alphabetical With Booth Assignment...............23Alphabetical With Contact Information...........24New at CHAP.........................................................32Audio Recording Order Form..............................32Convention Survey................................................35Workshop Schedule...............................Back CoverPlan Ahead...The 2009 CHAPConventionregistration willopen January 31.New For 2009• No registrationbrochures will bemailed unlessrequested.• A postcard reminderwill be mailed tothose in the database.• In 2008 over 75% ofthe preregistrations weredone online.• We can save $10,000 by not mailingthe registration brochure and that will help to waylay thecost increases that we have found in all areas.Table of Contents 1
