MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENTSr. Jacquelyn Gusdane, SNDSecurity and insecurity. . . Why dothese words keep surfacing? We seeksecurity but are faced with trials thatbring about insecurity. Often “notknowing” is at the core of our anxiety. For families in today’s world thereare many challenges to overcome inorder find that elusive sense of peace:When do I have time for a dentistappointment? How well is our 401Kdoing? How can I balance family, workand my aging parent? How do we protectour children from images that contradictthe values we instill at home?Although we can site many obstaclesthreatening our security, perhaps weshould turn our focus to Jesus, thesource of our peace. For Jesus, securitywasn’t one of his core concerns. Hemingled with all kinds of people. Heentered towns and villages where hiswelcome was anything but warm. Hespoke with freedom and authority andnot fear or coercion. He instructed hisdisciples to follow the lead of the Spirit— to leave all.I like to imagine that Mary taughtJesus all these lessons early on. Mary, aswe would say, “got it.” She mastered theart of weighing, holding, and embracingthe dynamic tensions that arise daily.Running away and avoidance were notpart of Mary’s way of living. In essence, both Jesus and Mary found peace within,an at home-ness that was unshaken byexternal insecurities and cemented byGod’s unconditional love for them. There is an at home-ness at NDCLas well. In some ways, it may mirrorthat inner world of peace in thesecurities it provides:• a community rooted in a relationshipwith the person of Jesus;• a place where young people areimmersed in caring and respectfor one another;• an experience where students engagewith teachers bent on forming mindsand shaping hearts;• an opportunity to expand limitedvisions into a global vision of livingin solidarity with the people of ourworld. And so I propose to you, in ourworld of challenge and insecurity, thattogether, we embrace the abidingstrength and hope in our security, themission and core values that driveNotre Dame-Cathedral Latin School. With gratitude and prayer for you andyour loved ones!Your TURNDear Leo,I thought the Hall Of Fame VIP event wasa home run. Thanks for helping us tocelebrate the 50th year of the CathedralLatin Athletic Hall of Fame. There weremany great comments from those whoattended about feeling better connectedto NDCL as a result of this event. Theywill help us carry the message that the“Latin spirit” is alive and well at NDCL.Terry Mulligan, HOF ’63HOF Reception Co-chairs TerryMulligan ’63 & Pete Pucher ’55Hi Sister Jacquelyn,Thank you very much for all the outstandingwork you did to provide one ofthe most memorable weekends of our lives!Paula and I really appreciate the enormousefforts put forth by all to celebrate the50th Hall of Fame weekend, and therainy Benedictine game gave me chillsand flashbacks to our games at HeightsHigh School in the 1970s! I always wantedLatin to beat Benedictine, and thankfullywe did! GO LIONS!!!The Spirit of the weekend was capturedby those students and families huddledaround The Blessed Mother Statue duringthe game. Majestically positioned abovethe field, it is an incrediblereminder of our rich Catholic heritage, the sacrifices of those who went before us,and our increasingly strong spiritualcommitment to one another.May God continue to richly bless you, your families and NDCL!Sincerely,Michael J.
