Lab Skills ChecklistADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION VIA INTRAMUSCULAR –(EPINEPHERINE)Apply PPE precautionsPerform patient assessmentObtain history and baseline vital signsDetermine treatment planSelect appropriate medication and routeList indications and contraindications for medication and routeObtain consent and prepare patient for procedureAssemble equipment and suppliesConfirm the medication is required (0.3 mg Adult, 0.15 mg Pediatric)Apply the 6 Rights <strong>of</strong> medication administrationAssess medication for color, clarity, concentration, and expiry dateUsing a 19-21 gauge, 1”-1.5” needle and a 3-5 ml syringe, draw the correctvolume <strong>of</strong> drug into the syringe and remove any air then replace the needlewith a new one prior to injection (The AnaKit © has a pre-filled syringe)Clean and prep the injection siteStretching the skin over the site with finger and thumb <strong>of</strong> non-dominant hand,insert needle at a 90 degree angle to the muscle (in one fluid motion)Aspirate for blood by drawing back on the syringe plunger.
