In some cases, your healthcare pr<strong>of</strong>essional may choose to use a desensitization<br />

protocol, a method that <strong>in</strong>volves adm<strong>in</strong>ister<strong>in</strong>g a s<strong>in</strong>gle dose <strong>of</strong> vacc<strong>in</strong>e <strong>in</strong> two<br />

or more portions to reduce <strong>the</strong> potential risk <strong>of</strong> an allergic reaction.<br />

Guidel<strong>in</strong>e 31 recommends that children with egg allergy, even those with a<br />

history <strong>of</strong> severe reactions, receive vacc<strong>in</strong>es <strong>for</strong> measles, mumps, <strong>and</strong> rubella<br />

(MMR) <strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong> MMR with varicella (MMRV).<br />

What else you should know: MMR <strong>and</strong> MMRV vacc<strong>in</strong>es are safe because <strong>the</strong><br />

egg prote<strong>in</strong> content <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se vacc<strong>in</strong>es is very low.<br />
