Encoder OperationData Encoding: Data input via the RS-232, modem, and LAN ports of the TES9 can be encoded and inserted, conformingto the SMPTE-291M and 334M standard, into a HD-SDI or SD-SDI video stream. The TES9’s dual video paths allowsimultaneous data encoding of two different video streams. The TES9 is capable of inserting audio metadata, a broadcastflag, active format descriptors (AFD), captions, and other data types.Data Decoding: The TES9’s dual-video-path architecture allows simultaneous decoding of two different video inputs.An important feature of the TES9 is its ability to encode and decode simultaneously, allowing “one pass” monitoring ofencoded data without additional equipment in the program path. The TES9 can also extract VANC data from an HD-SDIsignal and forward it via an RS232 port for analysis or viewing.Closed Captioning (including dual language): The TES9 provides encoding of caption distribution packets (CDPs),which contain embedded 608, “derived 708” and “native 708”, in the vertical ancillary space of an HDSDI signal.• Supports single pass dual language captioning• Insert two languages from a single caption server or from multiple caption servers• Second language caption data can be added to content without affecting existing caption data• Existing caption data can also be replaced or re-mapped as second language captions• Maintains SD workflow while captioning HD.• Caption data streams can enter the TES9 through RS232, modem and LAN interface ports.• When a primary caption channel has previously been encoded the TES9 can add secondlanguage captioning to both SD-SDI and HD-SDI video.• Extracts CEA-708 CDPs and other data from the VANC of an HD-SDI signal, and processes thedata to create data streams which are then sent to an ATSC encoder and PSIP generator.• When deriving a standard definition analog broadcast signal from an HD-SDI stream, the TES9can extract VANC packets containing CEA-608 data from the HD-SDI signal.Dynamic Configuration: The TES9 is configured using a PC connected directly to a serial port, or remotely via the LAN orinternal modem. Parameters are easily setup and stored in the TES9’s non-volatile memory.
