It was a traditionin Llanes’ family to start each morningwith a sit-down conversation over coffee.One morning, Llanes spilled coffee on oneof his drawings and was fascinated by theway the sienna colored liquid bled into hispaper. In Cuba, Llanes’ choice of materialswas limited so he very quickly adoptedhis mistake and started using the Cubanespresso as his medium of choice.Llanes was born in Pinar del Rio, CubaThe Cheraw <strong>Arts</strong> Commission in Cheraw,SC, will present the exhibit, From TheArt, a solo exhibition of art and essaysby Wadesboro, NC artist, June Rollins,WSNC, SW, on view in the Burr Gallery,from Mar. 1 - 25, <strong>2011</strong>. A reception and analcohol ink demonstration will be held onMar. 1, from 5:30-7pm.Twenty original paintings including,portraits, children, still life, landscapesand flowers in mostly watercolor and alcoholinks will be on exhibit.in 1985. Despite the economic hardshipsof his country, he attended the school ofart (Instructores de arte) and completedhis studies in 2004. He began teachingart appreciation to children (8 - 12) whilealso painting murals with local artists. Hismurals gained him attention.Llanes began having his work exhibited,winning prizes and nominations. Thisnewfound fame allowed him to have hiswork exhibited in South America as wellas Asia. He also became a mentee underone of Cuba’s most recognized realist artists,Juan Miguel Suarez.In 2007 Llanes starting workingwith renowned artist, Jonathan Green atGreen’s studio in Naples, FL. Two yearslater he was offered an Artist in Residenceposition with Green and moved toCharleston, SC, with Green and his staff.“Each of the paintings by ReynierLlanes reflects a mastery of an unusualmedium which is coffee. His ability tocreate a mood, atmosphere, and depthusing a range of brown clay colors isremarkable and his subjects magicallycome to life in each one of the works,”said Richard Weedman of Jonathan GreenStudios.The Franklin G.
