TheMercedes-Benz Sprinter is impressive proof of theposi tive impact BlueEFFICIENCY can have: thanks tothe use of innovative BlueTEC SCR diesel technology,the Sprinter already complies with the strict emissionlimits of the EPA 10 standard, while meeting yourown strict requirements for a powerful, lowconsumptiondrive system.Clean, powerful, and comfortable: the Sprinter withBlueTEC SCR diesel technology. The innovativeBlueTEC technology reduces emissions by filteringthe exhaust gases and then sending them througha catalytic converter, where they are mixed with thewater-based additive DEF. In this process, pollutantnitrogen oxides are converted into harmless nitrogenand water. The result is a substantial reduction inpollutants and soot particles – and one of the world’scleanest diesel engines.What you get is state-of-the-art engine technology,class-leading fuel consumption, and extremely lowpol lutant emissions – and all this in combination withimpressive power delivery and a remarkably low noiselevel. It intervenesactively in critical situations by(EBD), Brake Assist (BAS), andStart-off Assist as well as furtheraiding directional stability. On topof all this, ESP ® Trailer StabilityAssist enhances handling safetywhen towing a trailer.Brake Assist (BAS)Brake Assist can help to prevent ahead-to-tail crash or at least reducethe impact speed. Based on thespeed with which the driver pressesthe brake pedal, it is able to detecta situation in which emergencybraking is required. In such asituation, it increases the brakingpower automatically, aided by theanti-lock braking system (ABS),which prevents the wheels fromlocking up.Start-off AssistStart-off Assist, an integral part ofthe ESP ® , makes it easier to startoff on uphill slopes: after the brakepedal is released, the brake pressureis maintained for approximately twoseconds, allowing the driver tomove their foot from the brakepedal to the accelerator withouthaving to worry about the vehiclestarting to roll. If the system intervenesseveral times in succession, thebraking action becomes increasinglystronger, resulting in a significantreduction in the vehicle speed.Bi-xenon headlamps withAdd-Light system and corneringlight functionOn tight bends, at intersections, andwhen manoeuvring, the illuminationfrom the low-beam headlamps iscomplemented by an additionallight source: the Add-Light Systemoperates automatically when takingtight bends at up to 70 km/h,while the cornering light function isactivated when the direction indicatoris operated at up to 40 km/h,depend ing on steering angle.PARKTRONICThe PARKTRONIC parking aid warnsthe driver automatically if thesystem detects that the vehicle isclose to an obstacle in front ofor behind the vehicle. The warningis provided initially in the form ofa visual display in the centre of thedashboard (when moving forward)and in the exterior mirror (whenreversing). If the gap continues todecrease, an audible warning isalso activated.Front airbags 2 for driver andco-driverA front airbag 2 each for the driverand co-driver increase the level ofpotential protection for the beltedoccupants.Windowbags 2 and thorax bags 2In a severe side impact,windowbags 2 and thorax bags 2are deployed on the impact side.The windowbags 2 , housed in theside window area, are designedto give the occupants increasedhead protection. Housed in theseat backrests, the thorax bags 2are designed to offer increasedprotection for the upper torso ofthe occupants in these seats.Electronic brake forcedistribution (EBD)This system proportions the brakingforce between the front and rearwheels of the van as required, inorder to optimize braking efficiencyin all driving situations. In this waythe system prevents “overbraking”of the rear wheels, which couldcause the tail to start sliding. At thesame time EBD puts less stress onthe front brakes, which reduces therisk of fading due to overheating.Ventilation comfortSeveral air outlets provide goodair circulation to all seats. Inconjunction with a powerfulventilation system, they ensurepassenger comfort and well-being,particu larly on long journeys andin high ambient temperatures. Forfurther enhanced ventilationcomfort, a front air conditioningsystem and a choice of rear airconditioning systems are available(air outlets on left sidewall areoptional equipment).BlueEFFICIENCYMercedes-Benz BlueEFFICIENCY isthe name given to a raft of measureswhich, when combined, lead to areduction in fuel consumption andemissions.
