Minutes – approved, Maureen thanked <strong>the</strong> group for <strong>the</strong> opportunity to come to <strong>the</strong><br />
meeting and share <strong>the</strong> Walking School Bus program.<br />
1. Ice cream Socials -<br />
- Aug 3 Maria take a lead – Valerie will do <strong>the</strong> ice cream delivery – Lynda and Gail<br />
to help scoop<br />
- Everyone keep receipts give <strong>the</strong>m to Nancy for reimbursement<br />
- Anything left over from your date, please pass on to <strong>the</strong> next coordinator to use<br />
- Gail will supply gloves<br />
- Flyers – being distributed through <strong>the</strong> schools, posted at Pet Paradise, library, and<br />
each person will be given 5 flyers to share with <strong>the</strong>ir neighbours<br />
- Supplies for each event include 3 4L Chapmans (one flavour of sherbet)– 150 flat<br />
bottom cones<br />
- Delilah check for napkins<br />
- Table – Valerie to buy resin folding table<br />
2. Walking School Bus<br />
- school BBQ has been taking people’s attention<br />
- goal to really kick it off for Sept.<br />
- Dana to check in with Maureen about a fall kick off<br />
- Delilah will still give out flyers this year<br />
3. Meeting Dates
- Consensus was reached to maintain meetings at 6:30 on <strong>the</strong> first Tuesday of <strong>the</strong><br />
month<br />
- July 3 – <strong>the</strong> meeting will be held at 12 Steffler Drive<br />
- Aug 7 – <strong>the</strong> meeting will be held at FA Hamilton Public School<br />
4. Project Serve<br />
- You received an invitation to participate in this volunteer service program through<br />
<strong>the</strong> University of <strong>Guelph</strong>, <strong>the</strong> format of <strong>the</strong> event is <strong>the</strong> same Saturday, Sept 29 –<br />
8:00 – noon<br />
- You need a contact person on <strong>the</strong> day of, would you like to participate?<br />
- Yes, <strong>the</strong> task will be to deliver <strong>the</strong> flyers for Harvest Happening, need 10<br />
volunteers<br />
- Need 2000 flyers, last year <strong>the</strong> students ran out very quickly<br />
- Dana to be <strong>the</strong> contact<br />
- Nancy to see if can get <strong>the</strong> school for <strong>the</strong> drop off location<br />
- Dana and Delilah to work on mapping out area<br />
- Nancy to get large size map<br />
5. Harvest Happening<br />
- Nancy sent out an email to both Clairfields and <strong>Hanlon</strong> <strong>Creek</strong> volunteers sharing<br />
that both groups have selected <strong>the</strong> same date for <strong>the</strong> community building events,<br />
<strong>the</strong>re is a conflict of resources example Todd Baker, Fusion Fun Zone<br />
- Consensus was reached to move <strong>the</strong> date to October 13 th<br />
- Karate program is interested in doing a demo at <strong>the</strong> event as long as <strong>the</strong>y are not<br />
testing that week<br />
- O<strong>the</strong>r <strong>City</strong> supports - Police canine unit – yes, fire trailer – yes, fire truck - ask<br />
for an approx arrival time, Picnic tables – no, Garbage cans - no<br />
6. Leisure Guide<br />
- <strong>the</strong> Community Development Division has been doing some work around promotion<br />
and marketing, a decision has been made to change <strong>the</strong> content in <strong>the</strong> Leisure Guide for<br />
<strong>Neighbourhood</strong> <strong>Group</strong>s as it this resource is difficult to keep current as <strong>the</strong> information is<br />
needed before groups have made decisions. For this issue each group will be listed for<br />
contact information and all program descriptions will be on <strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong> website. If members<br />
want program information on <strong>the</strong> website please send it directly to Nancy to be uploaded.<br />
7. Harvest Happening<br />
- In 2006 Fusion Homes supported some community building events and would<br />
have liked to support more but <strong>the</strong>y had already allocated <strong>the</strong>ir support. Nancy<br />
contacted Fusion early this spring and <strong>the</strong>y are interested in supporting<br />
community building events. What resources would you love to have at your<br />
event that <strong>the</strong>y could provide? bouncy castle and air maze with volunteer support<br />
would be great.<br />
- They offered o<strong>the</strong>r supports, is <strong>the</strong>re something else that Fusion could assist with?<br />
possibly sponsor some uniforms – Dana to check with Joanne if this would work
- Todd Baker has indicated that Allstate will be supporting events again in <strong>the</strong> South<br />
District, - is it possible to have face painting again? Nancy to ask Todd.<br />
8. Book Club<br />
Is doing very well up to 10 people, June meeting will be on <strong>the</strong> 27 th , location to be<br />
announced, for <strong>the</strong> summer <strong>the</strong> book selection is <strong>the</strong> new Harry Potter novel.<br />
9. Tim Horton’s<br />
– 3 children in <strong>Hanlon</strong> <strong>Creek</strong> could have <strong>the</strong> opportunity to participate in a residential<br />
camp, is this something <strong>the</strong> group would like to participate in? Consensus reached that<br />
this is a great opportunity and we should try to find families, details attached.<br />
10. Fall Children’s Program<br />
- we have talked about creating a pilot program for children and always run out of time,<br />
need to start looking at this now if we are to run something in <strong>the</strong> fall<br />
-Dana and Valerie will meet to draft a proposal including details and full budget, anyone<br />
interested in joining <strong>the</strong>m is welcome, contact Nancy 519-837-5618 ext 235<br />
11. Karate<br />
-Joanne and Jay have been facilitating free Karate lessons with <strong>Hanlon</strong> <strong>Creek</strong> since<br />
November on Thurs, participants can also participate Mondays at Parkwood Gardens<br />
<strong>Neighbourhood</strong> <strong>Group</strong> , Wednesdays and Saturdays at <strong>the</strong> Shelldale Centre<br />
-<strong>the</strong>y have a strong participation<br />
-June 9 th accreditation seminars and grading of sensei<br />
-June 16 th next belt grading for <strong>the</strong> participants<br />
-we only have <strong>the</strong> gym till <strong>the</strong> last week of June so <strong>the</strong>y will resume in September<br />
-possible may not have space at Jean Little because of Continuing Ed<br />
-Delilah to see if this is going to happen could <strong>the</strong> program move to Centennial, College<br />
Heights, or College Ave, ano<strong>the</strong>r option would be to ask University Village Church –<br />
Pete Olsen<br />
-members help with fundraising to help cover expenses usually through a train-a-thon<br />
right now <strong>the</strong>y are in debt $1000 for whole program<br />
-can we offer <strong>the</strong>m a one time honorarium? $150.00 - $200.00 – Dana to email Nancy <strong>the</strong><br />

12. Community Use<br />
- A letter was sent to <strong>the</strong> group outlining <strong>the</strong> changes for 2007-08 Upper Grand<br />
Community Use, applications will be accepted Aug 28 th and programs start <strong>the</strong><br />
week of Sept 17 th<br />
13. Walk this Way<br />
- The <strong>Guelph</strong> Community Health Centre and Wellington Dufferin <strong>Guelph</strong> Public<br />
Health is hosting a workshop on creating a walking program and maintaining a<br />
walking regime<br />
- Dana and Maureen will be attending
14. South End School Review<br />
– will be happening over <strong>the</strong> next 5 years, purpose of <strong>the</strong> review is to evaluate closures,<br />
openings, new schools<br />
- can we as a group have an official opinion?<br />
-yes, <strong>Neighbourhood</strong> <strong>Group</strong>s can do advocacy from <strong>the</strong> point of view of <strong>the</strong> group as<br />
long as <strong>the</strong> point of view has been supported through consensus and documented in <strong>the</strong><br />
minutes and someone selected as <strong>the</strong> spokesperson(s) on <strong>the</strong> issue<br />
15. Damaged slide at University Village Park<br />
- is <strong>the</strong> slide going to be repaired?<br />
-Nancy contacted staff at <strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong> and <strong>the</strong> slide has been ordered and as soon as it is in it<br />
will be installed.<br />
16. Photography<br />
– John offered to do a slide show for retiring teachers as a gift, Ilka and Maria are on<br />
Parent Council - bring it to Laura upcoming Chair<br />
-John agreed to take pictures at events, and create a collage to promote events, and show<br />
off <strong>the</strong> work of <strong>the</strong> group on <strong>the</strong> website.<br />
17. Logo<br />
-through a voting system a logo was created as seen on <strong>the</strong>se minutes! Thank you to <strong>the</strong><br />
artistic contributions this was a difficult task!
