- Consensus was reached to maintain meetings at 6:30 on the first Tuesday of the month - July 3 – the meeting will be held at 12 Steffler Drive - Aug 7 – the meeting will be held at FA Hamilton Public School 4. Project Serve - You received an invitation to participate in this volunteer service program through the University of Guelph, the format of the event is the same Saturday, Sept 29 – 8:00 – noon - You need a contact person on the day of, would you like to participate? - Yes, the task will be to deliver the flyers for Harvest Happening, need 10 volunteers - Need 2000 flyers, last year the students ran out very quickly - Dana to be the contact - Nancy to see if can get the school for the drop off location - Dana and Delilah to work on mapping out area - Nancy to get large size map 5. Harvest Happening - Nancy sent out an email to both Clairfields and Hanlon Creek volunteers sharing that both groups have selected the same date for the community building events, there is a conflict of resources example Todd Baker, Fusion Fun Zone - Consensus was reached to move the date to October 13 th - Karate program is interested in doing a demo at the event as long as they are not testing that week - Other City supports - Police canine unit – yes, fire trailer – yes, fire truck - ask for an approx arrival time, Picnic tables – no, Garbage cans - no 6. Leisure Guide - the Community Development Division has been doing some work around promotion and marketing, a decision has been made to change the content in the Leisure Guide for Neighbourhood Groups as it this resource is difficult to keep current as the information is needed before groups have made decisions. For this issue each group will be listed for contact information and all program descriptions will be on the City website. If members want program information on the website please send it directly to Nancy to be uploaded. 7. Harvest Happening - In 2006 Fusion Homes supported some community building events and would have liked to support more but they had already allocated their support. Nancy contacted Fusion early this spring and they are interested in supporting community building events. What resources would you love to have at your event that they could provide? bouncy castle and air maze with volunteer support would be great. - They offered other supports, is there something else that Fusion could assist with? possibly sponsor some uniforms – Dana to check with Joanne if this would work
- Todd Baker has indicated that Allstate will be supporting events again in the South District, - is it possible to have face painting again? Nancy to ask Todd. 8. Book Club Is doing very well up to 10 people, June meeting will be on the 27 th , location to be announced, for the summer the book selection is the new Harry Potter novel. 9. Tim Horton’s – 3 children in Hanlon Creek could have the opportunity to participate in a residential camp, is this something the group would like to participate in? Consensus reached that this is a great opportunity and we should try to find families, details attached. 10. Fall Children’s Program - we have talked about creating a pilot program for children and always run out of time, need to start looking at this now if we are to run something in the fall -Dana and Valerie will meet to draft a proposal including details and full budget, anyone interested in joining them is welcome, contact Nancy 519-837-5618 ext 235 11. Karate -Joanne and Jay have been facilitating free Karate lessons with Hanlon Creek since November on Thurs, participants can also participate Mondays at Parkwood Gardens Neighbourhood Group , Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Shelldale Centre -they have a strong participation -June 9 th accreditation seminars and grading of sensei -June 16 th next belt grading for the participants -we only have the gym till the last week of June so they will resume in September -possible may not have space at Jean Little because of Continuing Ed -Delilah to see if this is going to happen could the program move to Centennial, College Heights, or College Ave, another option would be to ask University Village Church – Pete Olsen -members help with fundraising to help cover expenses usually through a train-a-thon right now they are in debt $1000 for whole program -can we offer them a one time honorarium? $150.00 - $200.00 – Dana to email Nancy the request for Janette -post info on the website 12. Community Use - A letter was sent to the group outlining the changes for 2007-08 Upper Grand Community Use, applications will be accepted Aug 28 th and programs start the week of Sept 17 th 13. Walk this Way - The Guelph Community Health Centre and Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health is hosting a workshop on creating a walking program and maintaining a walking regime - Dana and Maureen will be attending
