Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Department for Education and Child Development has released a new Cyber
Policy, the link to which is on our website. Please refer to this site so you have a
clear understanding of what is allowed on our social media sites. It will make it
difficult to personally reward students for significant achievements, however,
guidelines will be followed to best ensure the safety of students.
Prospect Council will shortly commence work on upgrades to the cottage area.
Builder’s fencing will be in place to ensure safety. They are kindly providing us with
portable toilets during the construction phase. These are for the use of OSHC
staff/students only.
Parking and traffic generally on Thomas Street has been less than safe in recent
weeks. We have asked Prospect Council to attend and monitor speed,
inappropriate parking, motorists leaving their vehicle in the drop-off zone, 3 point
turns, overtaking on the pedestrian crossing and other issues that could be
improved.
Our end of year Music Concert will not go ahead this year because of staff ill
health. Senior Choir will celebrate their excellent work with a celebration in Week 6.
Junior Choir will perform at assembly in Week 8. In Week 9, students learning an
instrument will perform for their own parents in the hall on Wednesday 5 th
December.
Your support of our Skipathon has been fantastic! The funds raised are essential for
resourcing our initiatives at Nailsworth. We will now be able to increase budgets for
2013.
You are reminded that Governing Council will convene 15 minutes early on
Monday 5th November for parents who wish to discuss Materials and Services
Charges for 2013. Chris Cesco, Principal
INFO FROM TONI
Wow! What a success Skipathon 2012 was! It was such a spectacle to see. The level of
involvement by all students to the activity was high. Thank you to staff and students for
their commitment to this annual event.
Thanks must also be directed to everyone who has sponsored a student. The level of
sponsorship is most gratifying and the money collected enables the school to purchase
resources R-7. Sponsorship money can be paid to Mrs. Dunton in the Finance Office until
Friday 16 th November.
On a less positive note, I need to remind parents/guardians that they must obey the
signage on roadways and on posts in regards to parking and speed. Thomas Street is an
extremely busy street between 8.25-8.45am and 3.10-3.30pm on school days. It is
imperative that all people driving cars obey the traffic rules for their own and student
safety. I have spoken to the Prospect Council, and traffic inspectors will be patrolling the
school’s boundary streets over the coming weeks. Also, I have asked for clarification of
the signage – for example, what are the rules in a ‘Kiss and Drop’ zone. I will publish
these once I have received them.
NEWSLETTERS VIA EMAIL
Once again we will offer the school community the
opportunity to receive the fortnightly newsletter via
email. This will help to save paper and the environment
by reducing the amount of paper we send home with
your children. If you would like to receive the newsletter
via email please register ASAP.
Please email: email.newsletter@nailps.sa.edu.au
Please include the names and year levels of your
children so that we can make sure future hard copies
are not sent home as well as the electronic version.
Many thanks.
Jade Watson, ICT Coordinator
WEBSITE OF WONDER (WOW)
Included in each newsletter is an educational website
that may be of use to parents and students of NPS. I try
to cater for all age groups and interests. If you are
interested in receiving this website via email please
register your details and year level(s) of your child/ren to:
jade.watson@nailps.sa.edu.au then you will be emailed
the WOW fortnightly so you can access these websites.
The Website of Wonder (WOW) for this newsletter is about
a new Social Media Policy released by DECD.
The Department has released a social media policy and
guidelines, providing practical advice about how
schools and pre-schools can use and manage social
media.
This advice covers protecting student and staff privacy,
and defining the boundaries for staff in their interactions
with students when using social networking sites such as
Facebook.
A number of schools in South Australia recently reported
social media sites using their school's name and/or logo.
Some of these sites included material considered
offensive, including defamatory comments about
students, staff and others in the school community.
The Department’s social media website
www.decd.sa.gov.au/socialmedia provides guidance
on how to go about reporting offensive social media
sites.
At Nailsworth Primary School we have chosen to use
social media as a communication tool to keep parents
and the local community informed of our exciting
activities/initiatives at our site. On our website
www.nailps.sa.edu.au parents/guardians can make
school and OSHC payments, access information about
OSHC, school policies, important dates and find out
what is happening at Nailsworth Primary.
Policy and Guidelines plus useful support resources, go to
CHRISTIAN
PASTORAL
SUPPORT
WORKER
The vegetable garden down the laneway is looking
extremely good at the moment. I hope that the hot
weather won’t burn our carrots to ash. The sage is
blooming with pretty purple flowers, the carrots are
slowly getting bigger, the broad beans are starting to
be harvested and the cos lettuce will soon go to
seed. The rocket, coriander and parsley are
beginning to seed and the Asian greens’ seeds are
now drying so we can plant more soon. Last week
we picked the red beets and we are looking forward
to using them and the spinach in some delicious
dishes. However, the only negative is my lack of
nurturing resulting in the strawberry and pea plants
dying prematurely. Over the coming months we are
looking forward to the zucchini seedlings growing
bigger and hopefully the watermelon, pie melon and
squash will come up. Feel free to pop down the
laneway and admire the greenery.
NETTA YELLOW NEWS
Our Netta yellow team hit the court at Lothian Avenue for
their second game of the season with an abundance of
enthusiasm and confidence after playing their first game
the week before. Our opposition was again short of
players and our girls showed great sportsmanship by
taking it in turns to fill in for them so both teams had 7
players on the court. With our captain Charlotte winning
the toss, we took the centre pass. Mia and Tess shared the
position of C and ran the court continuously and moved
the ball extremely well. Meg and Erin shared the position
of WA and passed the ball with accuracy and also
provided great passing options. Lauren and Phoebe
played WD and kept the opposition on their toes with their
running of the court and defending skills. Jessica and
Arkie again proved to be a great combination in the goal
third, working together to get as close as possible to the
ring for a shot at goal and together shot a total of 7. Ella
and Charlotte had the task of defending in the positions of
GD and GK. With their great passes from the backline and
excellent rebounding, we were able to work the ball back
down to our goal circle. A fantastic game from all the girls
resulting in their first win for the season with a score of 7-1.
Goal Scorers : Arkie, Jessica
Week 3 saw our team record their second win for the
season against East Para (11-2). Our captain this week
was Arkie. The girls have been working hard at training,
practising their passing, defending and learning the
positions and the rules of the game. On Friday we had
Jessica and Arkie playing in C and Tess in WA. All three
girls passed with accuracy and moved around the court
well to provide passing options. Our defence included
Phoebe in GK who took some great rebounds. Erin and
Meg in WD took some great catches around the goal
circle from our throw-ins and Lauren in GD did well
intercepting the ball and providing great passing options.
Ella and Charlotte played GS and Mia GA. All the girls
played extremely well in the goal third and worked
together to move the ball into the goal circle. Together
the girls shot a total of 11 goals! Another fantastic game
from our Netta team and a big congratulations to all the
girls on their teamwork, skill improvement and enthusiasm.
