Sev’TaiI entered the Dustman Monument and saw Sev’Tai staring at the many namescarved there. She told me to stand back and asked what I wanted of her.I asked what the matter was. She said those chaos-men wrecked her cart, attacked her and killed three of her sisters who tried to stop them. Now hersisters were only names on the walls here. I asked who the Chaosmen were. She said they claim to be a faction, but are just an addled bunch that runs wildthrough the Hive doing whatever they please.I asked who the Chaosmen were that attacked her. She said they were a Hivegang called the Starved Dogs Barking or some such. I said that I wouldn’t mindputting them in the dead book for some coin. She offered me a copper earring.I said I’d see to it and asked if she could tell me where to find them. She said Ishould go out the south gate then walk around the block until I come to a placewhere men run in circles howling at the sky. I said farewell.Death-of-NamesIn the same area was Death-of-Names, a Dustman. When I walked up to him heimmediately asked my name. I said that I didn’t know. He said that he couldn’thelp me without a name. I needed a name if I wanted to see where it died.I asked what he meant. He said you’re given a name when your born, and yougive it back when you need it no more. Tell me a name, I’ll show you its grave.I told him Deionarra. He pointed at a section of wall and said buried. I examinedthe spot he indicated. In tiny cramped writing was her name, nearly lost in thesea of names around it.©2000 All Rights Reserved
