FOREWORDThis publication provides the monthly Consumer Price Indices for Uganda(Composite) and for the eight baskets of Kampala High Income, Kampala Lowand Middle Income, Jinja, Mbale, Masaka, Mbarara, Gulu and Arua. All thebaskets are for the urban households.The current Consumer Price Index was rebased from (July 1997 to June 1998 =100) to (July 2005 to June 2006 = 100) using weights derived from the2005/2006 Uganda National Household Survey data. During the rebasingexercise, Kampala was decomposed into two baskets. In addition, Arua centrewas incorporated into the Index. The number of elementary aggregates in therevised Index was increased from 125 to 276.At the elementary aggregate level, the indices are computed using the Jevons(Geometric Mean) method for all items within the elementary aggregates. Themodified Laspeyres index formula is used to compute higher level indices.
