Medical evidence tosupport your application must also be submitted by this date.1 March 2011If you applied online, we will email you by late afternoon to tell you theoutcome of your application. Letters will be posted to all parents todayby second class mail.15 March 2011you need to accept the offer of a school place by today.30 March 2011Appeal forms should be returned to enable these to be heard in the firstround of appeals in April/May 2011.5 September 2011Start of new school term.5Apply online at www.newcastle.gov.uk/admissions by 31 October 2010 (midnight)
secondary 4 print 27/8/10 16:49 Page 7When does my child transfer from primary school?Start to consider your preferred middle orsecondary school as soon as your child entersthe final year of their current school.By 31 October 2010,If your child is currently in Year 4 in a firstschool you should apply for a place in Year 5 ina middle school.If your child is currently in Year 6 in a primaryschool you should apply for a place in Year 7 ina secondary school.If your child is currently in Year 8 in a middleschool you should apply for a place in Year 9 ina high school.Can I apply for my child to changebetween the two-tier and three-tierschool systems?Yes but applications can only be considered forany vacancies that may be available in theappropriate year group.If you do not apply, we will offer a place at thenearest available school for which your child iseligible, after considering all on timeapplications. This could be some distance fromyour home.What if my child has specialeducational needs?The majority of children with specialeducational needs are able to have their needsmet at any mainstream school.If your child has a Statement of SpecialEducational Needs (SEN) naming a particularschool, you do not need to apply for a place.In all other cases, including where your childhas a Statement of SEN that does not name aschool, an application form should be submittedby the closing date of 31 October.If you have any specific questions or concerns,please discuss these with the schools you areconsidering.Please consider the impact of your child joiningschool when other pupils have already attendedthat school, made friends and been part of theschool community since the usual age oftransfer. Contact us for advice and informationon available places before you apply.Does every parent or carer with achild due to transfer to secondaryschool have to apply?Yes.
