Departments & Services<br />
Computer Department (continued)<br />
Research and identify new and alternative methods in the delivery and<br />
presentation <strong>of</strong> municipal information for Internet and Intranet-based<br />
publication.<br />
Continue the extension <strong>of</strong> telecommunications among municipal locations<br />
in providing secure and cost effective network segments to support and<br />
enhance municipal services.<br />
Expansion <strong>of</strong> wireless networks within <strong>Simsbury</strong> <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong>fi ces to provide<br />
alternate uses and availability <strong>of</strong> applications and services for <strong>of</strong>fi ce<br />
departments and other governmental units.<br />
Culture, Parks and Recreation<br />
The Culture, Parks and Recreation Department oversees the<br />
administration <strong>of</strong> the town’s parks and recreational facilities. It also<br />
provides a wide range <strong>of</strong> programs for all ages throughout the year. The<br />
Department seeks to provide quality leisure opportunities which contribute<br />
to the environment, needs and interests <strong>of</strong> the community.<br />
The <strong>Simsbury</strong> Culture, Parks and Recreation Commission provides<br />
direction and oversight to the Department, as well as recommending policy<br />
to the Board <strong>of</strong> Selectmen. The Commission is assisted by the <strong>Simsbury</strong><br />
Farms Complex Committee, a sub-committee that advises on the operation<br />
and programming at the <strong>Simsbury</strong> Farms Recreation Complex.<br />
Accomplishments <strong>of</strong> <strong>2007</strong> – <strong>2008</strong><br />
Increased volume <strong>of</strong> program <strong>of</strong>ferings and on-line registration through<br />
the Department’s web site, www.simsburyrec.com. Utilized website to<br />
market programs by direct e-mail to a database <strong>of</strong> over 3,400 families.<br />
Coordinated fundraising and planning activities for the annual<br />
<strong>Simsbury</strong> Celebrates event in November. Over $23,000 was raised<br />
through private donations and sponsorships. The event drew attendance<br />
<strong>of</strong> over 9,000 for indoor and outdoor entertainment, a parade, and<br />
fi rework s d ispl ay.<br />
Continued marketing initiative by developing a new tri-fold brochure<br />
dedicated to showcasing the <strong>Simsbury</strong> Farms facility and it’s amenities<br />
to new residents and potential users <strong>of</strong> the facility.<br />

Completed golf course improvements including drainage installation<br />
on holes #10, #15, and #17.<br />
Goals for <strong>2008</strong> - 2009<br />
Continue growth <strong>of</strong> program and facility use through ongoing<br />
marketing initiative.<br />
Secure funding and complete construction <strong>of</strong> access road at <strong>Simsbury</strong><br />
Farms, as well as park and golf maintenance facilities.<br />
Offer new incentives to increase play at the <strong>Simsbury</strong> Farms Golf Course.<br />
Promote use <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Simsbury</strong> Farms Ropes/Challenge Course to groups<br />
<strong>of</strong> all ages.<br />
Continue to make <strong>Simsbury</strong> Farms the “Heart <strong>of</strong> a Great Community”.<br />
Department <strong>of</strong> Engineering/<br />
Capital Projects<br />
The Department provides design and management services for a full<br />
range <strong>of</strong> community projects; and, administrative and design support for<br />
Capital Projects. During the past year, we worked closely with the Board<br />
<strong>of</strong> Selectmen, Public Building Committee, <strong>Simsbury</strong> Public Schools and<br />
several <strong>Town</strong> agencies in order to advance several projects to the bidding<br />
and construction phase.<br />
