A PRACTICAL APPROACH TO BREAST IMAGINGJanuary 11–16, 2009About the CourseThis course is designed for the clinical radiologist who specializes in breast imaging orwho practices general diagnostic radiology that includes breast imaging. It is intendedto provide an overview and update on clinically relevant topics in diagnostic imaging ofthe breast including recent developments in the subspecialty. A practical approach isemphasized through formal didactic lectures covering core topics in breast imaging andconcepts reinforced by interactive workshops in a small group setting. Lectures andworkshops on similar core topic areas will be presented by different speakers to provideparticipants with a broader perspective on the different approaches for problem-solvingin breast imagingEarn SAM CreditAn opportunity for completion of a Self-Assessment Module will also be offered.“Breast Imaging Review for the General Radiologist” (ABR # UCSS100507-0163) wasapproved on May 24, 2007, and is qualified by the American Board of Radiology inmeeting the criteria for self-assessment toward the purpose of fulfilling requirements inthe ABR Maintenance of Certification Program.At the completion of this course,the participant will be able to:1.Compare the considerations applicable to5.Describe the key medicolegal aspects of2.screening with different breast imagingtechniques, including mammography,ultrasound, nuclear medicine, CT and MRI;Describe the rationale and expectedoutcomes for imaging surveillance ofprobably benign lesions of the breast;6.7.breast imaging practice;Assist in diagnostic workups usinginterventional breast imaging procedures,including percutaneous sampling ofnonpalpable lesions;Describe the current uses of full-field digital3.Understand the appropriate use of BIRADsand be familiar with recent updates;mammography and computer assisteddetection;4.Use methods to reduce the number of8.Recognize the indications, strengths andfalse-negative and false-positivemammography interpretations;weaknesses of current breast magneticresonance imaging (MRI) techniques.Course participants will also have completed an ABR-qualified Self-Assessment Module.2
