Cycling
Columba College is very lucky to have been selected to be involved in the Otago Secondary Schools‘
Cycling Initiative. We are now receiving cycling clinics run by Suzy Pryde, who has represented New
Zealand at both the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games, and her partner Chris Drake, also a
representative cyclist. Suzy and Chris are providing wind trainer sessions for the girls during the
week, along with supervised bunch rides on Sundays. The aim of the programme is to improve
students‘ knowledge and ability in all areas of road cycling with the goal of developing a cycling team
for the school. We have already begun our first sessions and are excited by this unique opportunity.
To assist with our cycling programme, it would be helpful to have a few spare road bikes available to
loan to those girls who are new to the sport and have not yet invested in their own road bike. If any
parents have a used road bike that they are no longer using which they would like to donate to the
College or sell at a low cost, could you please contact Julie McMahon via the School Office.
