<strong>Delhi</strong>horizonsAnnual Report 2006$20,000. The generosity of alumniand friends is critical to providingstudents with the financial aid theyneed to pursue a <strong>Delhi</strong> education.Their support enabled the CollegeFoundation and College Associationto award nearly $300,000 inscholarships and assistantships toneedy <strong>Delhi</strong> students last year.Other examples of successful resourcegeneration activities last year included:• Industry Support—The successof <strong>Delhi</strong>’s academic programsin preparing students forimmediate employment hasgenerated strong support fromthe industries that they serve.• Golf/Plant Sciences programsreceived $175,000 in equipmentloans to give students experienceworking with the latestindustry-quality equipment.• Boehringer/Ingelheim Pharmaceuticalsawarded $10,000 in assistantshipsto outstanding VeterinaryScience Technology majors.• <strong>Delhi</strong> students were awarded$10,000 in scholarships by theGolf Course SuperintendentsAssociation of America/New YorkState Turfgrass Association.• Special Collections—The MerrillFamily Foundation committed$99,000 to supportconstruction of areading room and theacquisition of specialcollections in thelibrary to support theVeterinary ScienceTechnology programs.• StudentInvestments—TheStudent Senate madeits largest class gift,contributing $10,000to support Farrell Hallrenovations and anadditional $2,000 toreplace equipment in “The Bubble.”• Joint Project—Technology studentsgained the ultimate real-worldexperience, building a new homefor sale with financing provided bythe College Foundation. Proceedsfrom the sale were used to assistthe Technology Division andsupport other programs sponsoredby the College Foundation.• Healthy Living—The Alcoholand Other Drug PreventionTask Force secured a $5,000grant from the State Universityto support alternative activitiesfor students. The grant alsoincluded funds for faculty, staffand student prevention training.Late night events and activities hosted on the <strong>SUNY</strong> <strong>Delhi</strong> campus have givenstudents a safe alternative to drinking.The talents of guest chefs Juergen Spagolla, Martin Theonioand wine expert Gerald Pellegrino III and Christian DeLutiswere featured at “A Night in Madrid,” a dinner fundraiserto support the Kevin Zraly Scholarship Endowment.• Fine Dining—The seventh annualKevin Zraly Scholarship Dinner,sponsored by the HospitalityManagement Department, attractedits largest turnout ever. A total of120 guests attended an evening offine dining prepared by studentsunder the direction of Guest ChefJuergen Spagolla, executive chef atthe Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont.• Professional Development—Grantsfrom the New York State/CSEAPartnership for Education andTraining program allowed theHuman Resources and FacilitiesOffice, in cooperation with CSEALocal 638, to bring specializedtraining programs to the campus.Grants were also secured to supportemployee health and fitness.IncreaseEfficienciesThrough the Useof TechnologyTechnology is reshapingour daily lives, from how wecommunicate with students,faculty and staff to how wedeliver programs and services.The following examplesdemonstrate the diverse uses oftechnology at <strong>SUNY</strong> <strong>Delhi</strong>:• <strong>SUNY</strong> Connections—Libraryresources for students expandedexponentially with the officiallaunch of <strong>SUNY</strong>Connect, ashared online library that featuresover 18 million volumes andthousands of electronic resourcesand digital images. A new <strong>SUNY</strong>web portal for position andaccount distributionAssociate Professor Hans Herrmann ‘98instructs a student of the new Bachelorof Technology in Architectural Designand Building program.increased the efficiencies of theseHuman Resources processes.• Feedback—Survey Monkey, aweb-based product, has made itsignificantly easier to get feedbackon topics ranging from orientationto retention to branding.• Wireless—Wireless accesscontinues to expand with theinstallation of 12 new dataaccess points in Russell Hall.• Blogging—Resnick Library stafflaunched the Library Blog, aninteractive online communicationforum for students, faculty and staff.• Streamline Video—The NJCAADivision III Men’s BasketballTournament was broadcast live overthe Internet using streaming video.• Tickets—Student Activitiesforged an agreement with FrontGate tickets that has significantlyincreased online ticket sales forspecial events. An automatedparking enforcement technologysystem was purchased to improveefficiencies in University Policeand Student Accounts.Maintain andImprove FacilitiesThe <strong>SUNY</strong> <strong>Delhi</strong> campus covers625 acres and has grown to include44 buildings. This expansivephysical plant requires an ongoingcommitment to monitoring,improving and investing in thecampus infrastructure to betterserve students. It also takes specialCapital Construction fundsfrom the State University, stategrants, campus funds and personalinvolvement. The combination hasproduced a beautiful campus andstimulating learning environmentfor students. In fact, the academicenvironment and facilities garneredhigh marks from students in the2006 Student Opinion Survey.Special projects over thelast year include:• BT Studio—The formercabinetmaking lab in FarnsworthHall was transformed into astudio, specifically designed tomeet the needs of students in thenew baccalaureate program inArchitectural Design and Building.• Residence Halls—Renovationswere made in each residence hall.Visitors to the college’s fitness center can watch up to 76 channels on cablein the Clark Field House.Noticeable improvements includednew bathrooms throughoutMurphy Hall and lounge upgradesin Gerry, DuBois and RussellHalls. Major investments weremade to O’Connor Hall, includingbathroom upgrades, fresh paintin all student rooms, and theinstallation of new furniture valuedat $150,000. The Murphy HallMain Lounge also received aface-lift with new paint, carpeting,tiling and furniture. A new damagereduction program successfully- - - -
