Theteam has the experience and knowledge to solvethe stringent requirements and applications ofspecialist organisations including professionalrescue services, the military and other governmentand commercial organisations.Barrus has developed close relationships withmany of its major customers working asconsultants and suppliers. These includeorganisations such as the RNLI, UK MoD, US DoD,HM Coastguard, Overseas Government Forces,Local Authorities, Police and Fire Service Searchand Rescue Units.Barrus has created the innovative FAST PIRS forthe military, commercial and rescue services whichenables an engine to be rapidly started after beingsubmerged. This is an enormous advance for selfrightingsearch and rescue vessels.Barrus were proud to be awarded a long termpartnering agreement with the UK MoD. Thiscovers the supply, overhaul and repair of alloutboard engines, Seatek and Yanmar inboarddiesel engines and related post design services andin-service support.Another example of Barrus innovation is the multifuel 50hp outboard engine. Barrus alsoprovides customers an engine overhaul facility,extending the life of significant capital expenditureitems.Barrus facilities include:• Five dynamometers capable of testing dieselengines up to 1600hp, with Europe’s only noncaptivesterndrive dyno, a variable down-angledyno and the world’s only Fabio Buzzi Trimaxdrive compatible dyno. The dynos can be preprogrammed and are run automatically bycomputer control.• Two overhead mono-rail production lines capableof taking outboard engines up to 350hp andinboard engines up to 500hp.• An outboard test cell which can accommodateup to eight 350hp engines with transoms from15”-30”.• Computer measuring machine (CMM) forinspection and design purposes.• Extensive CAD capability and resource.• A machine shop and welding centre for prototypeand low volume manufacture.• A dedicated engine overhaul area.• A spray booth with warm air ventilation forsuperior paint finish.19

It offersinstant access to ‘live’ information including stockavailability, order entry, back order status and orderhistory. To manage the 65,000 lines Barrus carriesas spare parts inventory the company has investedin the latest warehouse technology from Kardexand a new warehouse layout for 2010.Launton Road now has over 3 miles of shelving, 6Kardex carousels, with a combined capacity of13000 lines or 13 tonnes and 2 new Kardex XPshuttles capable of carrying 5500 lines or 13tonnes of spares.Customers’ orders are processed within 20 minutesand parts orders received by 4pm will be despatchedon the same day for delivery the next day. For largercustomers a dedicated overnight secure boxsystem is in place, stretching the order deadline to4:30pm with delivery before 8am the next day.This effective parts supply service is a key feature ofthe Barrus operation with a dedicated Spare PartsDepartment supporting a 1500 strong dealernetwork across all divisions.DistributionLocated at Bicester in Oxfordshire, Barrus is ideallysituated at the heart of the country’s motorwaysystem.
