Hearing him share hisinspirational story with thousands of Duffy kidsreminded us that anything is possible with the rightattitude. A big thanks goes to our friends at theStarship Foundation after our joint fundraising eventwith Dr. Carson. Thousands of Duffy kids havebenefited from the funds raised this year.As you will have already read, this year we saygoodbye to Kerryn Palmer and Cathryn Monroe ofthe Duffy Theatre. Whenever I see the excitementon kids’ faces as they watch the adventures ofDuffy and his friends I’m reminded of the amazingjob Kerryn and Cathryn have done in bringing Duffyto life over the years. They will both be missed bythe entire Duffy team and our thanks goes out tothem for all the amazing work and creativity theyhave put into the Duffy Show.In this newsletter you’ll also read about the CaughtBeing a Good Dad Award, sponsored by our friendsat Scholastic, Term Three Role Model assemblies,School Leader assemblies, the Ready for Readingprogramme and an exciting new fundraising initiativecalled Donate Your Desktop. Dale’s retrospective of news and sports in New Zealand overthe past forty years provides a thoughtful, provocative and insightful collectionof iconic images and memories. The book was accompanied by a specialcertificate which was presented to each winning father.Kids in Duffy schools around the country told their school just why their dadshould win an award which celebrates their vital contribution to school life.Schools voted, held writing competitions or even made lucky draws if thedecision was too tough.Linda Vagana, says “Encouraging family literacy is one of our key goals so we’rethrilled that we can acknowledge some of our great dads and male role modelswithin our communities. This would not have been possible without our greatpartner Scholastic NZ for once again sponsoring such a wonderful award.”LEFT: Mike Dalbeth is a regular visitor to Okaihau Primary School, always helpingout whereever he can. He often helps provide supervision and transport on classtrips as well as mucking in on school fundraising days too! He drives the quad bikeand trailer at Gala Days and cooks sausages on the BBQ, and he bakes a delightfullemon slice too. A general all round good guy!!
