DyasonFellowshipsDescriptionEdward Clarence Evelyn Dyason wasa notable humanist, philanthropist andengineer in the city <strong>of</strong> <strong>Melbourne</strong> whoin 1947 bequeathed to the <strong>University</strong>one-half <strong>of</strong> his residuary estate, for theadvancement <strong>of</strong> education. The purpose<strong>of</strong> the Dyason Fellowship is to supportthe educational benefits <strong>of</strong> this vision byassisting <strong>University</strong> staff to undertake (orhost) a short-term international visit thatfosters significant and lasting researchcollaborations with leading internationalresearchers, their academic networks andconsortia.Visits can be inbound or outbound includingwhere appropriate, a combination <strong>of</strong> both.The standard award will not exceed $5,000.In exceptional circumstances, additionalfunding may be awarded if the request canbe justified.Fellowship funds can be used as acontribution towards the total cost <strong>of</strong> theactivity and can include any (or all) <strong>of</strong> thefollowing:• international flights and connections(inbound and/or outbound)• accommodation• venue and associated equipment hire;and• other ancillary costs related to thevisit (but not direct research relatedexpenses)Fellowship funds cannot be used forsalaries (applicant, collaborator, researchassistants or consultants) or other directcosts associated with the proposedresearch collaboration (bench fees,materials and other research relatedexpenses).EligibilityApplicants for the Dyason Fellowship mustbe permanent or contracted academicposition at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Melbourne</strong> atthe time <strong>of</strong> application and be Academiclevel B or higher (minimum <strong>of</strong> 0.5 FTE).Application ProcedureSee the <strong>Melbourne</strong> <strong>Research</strong> Office websiteunder Internal Grants & Fellowships.ContactAdrian Collins, <strong>Melbourne</strong> <strong>Research</strong>,email: adrian.collins@unimelb.edu.auKey DatesApplications can be submitted at any timebut awards will be announced twice peryear (nominally in March and August <strong>of</strong>each year).5
