Jy ruik die reënwat vars deur die doringbome breek, jy sien die reëndaar buite in groot swaar druppels, jy hoor die reënwat aangerol kom en dan, as jy kaalvoet is, dan voeljy die reën onder jou tone – lekker-r-r-r!!! Die drome wasgroot, maar so ook die vertroue op ‘n toekomsin die nuwe dorp wat in 2005 oor meer grondpaaieas teerpad beskik het.Aan die groepie wat van die eerste dag van dieskool se bestaan by MCPP was, wens ons allevoorspoed toe.

5THE STORY OF A SMALL PIONEER -FROM BABY STEPS TO THE NEXT BIG STEP!One of our first residents prepares for theimportant milestone of entering primaryschool...When the Els family – Albert (dad),J’ruida (mom) and six-month-old Jarno– moved into Midstream early in 2004,the Estate was still in its fledgling stage.Their houseat Hutton Gate was surroundedby a cluster of five houses andveld, with the school (in various stagesof development) as well as jackal andother wildlife as their closest neighbours.The shopping centre, churchesand other parts of Midrand Estateswere futuristic notions.In January of 2005, Jarnojoined the first ever class in theMidstream Pre-Primary School.It was here that he took hisfirst “momentous” steps on hisfirst birthday (which J’ruida wasfortunate to witness). Anotherof the family’s favourite memoriesis of a fun walk held by theschool. As the walkways hadnot yet been developed, the carpark served as the course. As most of the children were toosmall to participate, they enjoyed the day’s activities fromthe comfort of their prams whilst the moms and dads did allthe walking!Jarno has progressed through the ranks of pre-primary school, during which time littlebrother Jensen (now three years old) has been welcomed into the family. Now a sixyearold in the ‘Sebra’ class, Jarno enjoys swimming, mountain biking and playingtennis with his family. He is excited about going to Grade 1 next year so that hecan learn to read, wrestle and play cricket. Of course,he fully intends to continue with his career in BulletjieRugby!2011 will be a big year for the family. When Jarno putson his new school shoes, he and his family will havejust moved into their newly built house in Midfieldand will be anticipating the arrivalof a baby sister towards the end ofJanuary.Jarno is just one of a number of childrenwho share in the history of theEstate. We wish these special littlepioneering residents all the best asthey enter Grade 1!

6News from the HOA / Nuus van die HEVAre you driving above thespeed limit?The world today requires many of usto spend time rushing from point topoint. However, if we add speeding inour cars to the rush, it will impact onthe way in which we would all preferto live life inside the estate. Childrenplaying in the estate are at risk andspeeding is against the HOA rules.You can change this.... drive at thespeed limit and by so doing you willnot only set the example but also set the pace. Residents in Midlands please take note thatin future stationary cameras are to be deployed in the estate and speed will be measured – thecameras will detect speed violations 24 hours a day – 7 days a week.For those with fast and noisypull-aways...Residents staying close to the accessgates have approached the HOAs withthe request to rein in the fast and noisypull aways of certain road users, by installingspeed bumps within 40 metersof the boom gates. This is a special requestto those with fast cars - please resistthe Formula 1 pull away when theboom opens!

7News from the HOA / Nuus van die HEVIntroducing Wynand Schoeman –the Estate/ Security Manager forMidfield EstateThe Midfield HOA board appointed WynandSchoeman in the joint position of estate and securitymanager from 1 July 2010. Wynand wasborn in the Freestate, matriculated in Theunissenand thereafter joined the SA Police where hecompleted 27 years of duty. He studied part timeand obtained his Honour’s Degree in Police Science.After teaching Crime Investigation at theTshwane University of Technology, he joined thesecurity management team of Midrand Estates in2007. In addition to his new position as estate/security manager at Midfield Estate, Wynand, inaccordance with the SASSETA skills programme,is in charge of the in-house training and assessmentof the security officers in Midrand Estates.Wynand is married to Francis, and in his free timeenjoys walking trails and playing with his Rottweilers.We wish him well in his personal and professionalendeavours.Feedback on security for July & August 2010.The virtually spotless record on security receiveda dent over the past two months withtwo incidents. In the first incident, four personsgained access to Midstream Estate byimpersonating police officers under the pretenseof delivering a subpoena to a specificresident. On arrival at the resident’s housethe family was tied up and the family robbed.The offenders left the estate with blue flashinglights. During the ensuing investigation threeculprits were identified and arrested and areawaiting trial.In the second incident an armed robbery tookplace on a Saturday morning at Ashford Houseoffice complex when the perpertrators surveyedthe area under guise of asking for directionsand then returned to rob the occupantMIDRAND ESTATES HOA’Sfrom a cell phone and lap top computer.The security management team and guardshave taken steps to tighten security and requestresidents to maintain their guard in thefight against crime.Residents passing through the Windsor andOld Kent gates to take note that a new accesssoftware package will be implemented soon.All residents and their family members as wellas domestic workers must be enrolled againthrough the capture of a new set of fingerprints as well as a photo. Early signs are listlessness, lack of appetite, pale gums and fever. Biliaryis a very serious disease and early detection makes for the best chanceof treatment success. In severe cases, blood transfusions are oftenneeded to ensure the survival of the patient. En-quireat your vet.10THE CHECKERS WAREHOUSE ON THE HILL:The saga between the Midstream HOA andCheckers has raged on for the past 12 monthsover the extensions brought about to the existingdistribution centre. The most recent additionsto the already enormous building willcreate a single building with a footprint exceeding110 000m² - comparable with the entireMenlyn shopping centre.The Midstream HOA (in conjunction with MidfieldHOA and Midlands HOA) has lodged anappeal with the Gauteng Townships boardagainst the process followed by the TshwaneMetro in relaxin the development height of thebuilding from 8m to 25m. A request by Checkersthat the HOAs be disallowed to appeal ona technical point, has been rejected by theTownships board. A date to hear the merits ofthe matter has been set down for November2010.The K109 access road (update Sept 2010)The need for another access road to the greaterMidrand Estates was identified in 2005 withappeals lodged to the Gauteng Province aswell as the Ekurhuleni and Tshwane Metrosto assist in bringing the K109-provincial roadabout. In 2008 Bondev undertook to financethe road planning and construction and initiatedthe pre-requisite environmentalstudies through Bokamoso EnvironmentalConsultants. Bokamoso hasadvised that the report was submittedto the overseeing environmentalauthority, GDARD, and thata result is (finally) expected duringOctober 2010. Therafter the nextstep in the process can commence.

MIDSTREAM METHODIST CHURCH IS TRULY BLESSED!This was again evident when the MidstreamMethodist Church held its first annual FamilyFun Day on Saturday, the 18th September2010 at Midfields Golf Course in MidrandEstates. The weather was wonderful and theevent was well attended by members of thecongregation and local residents, who participatedin the numerous activities on offer.One such event was the popular golfing competition,which saw forty golfers teeing off tocompete for one of the many sponsor donatedprizes.The more active attendees took part in the2km and 5km fun runs, which afterwards allowedthem to partake guilt-free in the deliciouscakes and pastries on offer at the teagarden. The kids were entertained in their ownchildren’s activity area, which offered facepainting, a jumping castle and art table, andall the participants in a “Master” and “Miss”Competition walked away with prizes. For theshoppers there were a number of well stockedstalls offering everything from crafts and doggieaccessories to boerewors rolls and refreshments.Midstream Methodist Church would like tothank all who attended and assisted in making13the day such a success, including the generoussponsors and those who opened stalls. Withouttheir support this occasion would not havebeen possible. The lion’s share of the FamilyFun Day’s proceeds, which exceeded expectations,will be used to redeem debt raised tobuild the Midstream Methodist Church Sanctuary.
