MLx rigid plastic multilayer technology
combining drug protection with user
safety
MLx is a multi-layer, injection blow-molded technology
designed to optimize barrier performance as well as
strength, clarity and pharmaceuticals compatibility.
Rexam’s MLx technology combines barrier properties
to moisture, oxygen and vacuum resistance.
Compared to glass, it brings compatibility with fragile
formulations such as proteins and resistance to
breakage to ensure user safety.
The technology is especially suitable for biotech drugs
that require the best protection and for products that
could endanger users in case of accidental exposure.
Since MLx packaging is shatter resistant, it allows
automated handling of vials to improve productivity

Rexam launches the Safe’n’Sound,
a passive safety device for 1 ml
long syringes
In response to the continued concern over
unprotected needle exposures and the mandated
Safety and Prevention regulations, Rexam has
developed a fully passive safety device for
prefilled syringes: the Safe’n’Sound.
The Safe’n’Sound provides healthcare
industries and patients with a full protection from
needlesticks to avoid any contamination.
Compared to a standard syringe, the
Safe’n’Sound system guarantees passive
protection as the syringe retracts automatically
in the system after the injection without any
action by the user.
Compact, light and transparent, the
Safe’n’Sound has only three components (a
sleeve, a body and a spring).
This new device is introduced after a standard
version for syringes 1 ml short.

Evipharm/ Secupharm: an innovative
integrated filled-in-line desiccant cap for bottles
The Rexam plant in Offranville, specialized in primary
packaging, has developed an innovative process which
includes injection of plastic parts, automated assembly and
desiccant filling.
From the quality standpoint, improved traceability and process
control reinforce existing GMP compliance.
Secupharm and Evipharm were developed with pharmacopoeia
compliant materials. Both fit 32 mm-neck bottles from 20ml up to
100ml, featuring thick HDPE walls to guarantee the best moisture
barrier and ensure high rigidity.
Regarding Supply Chain, a shorter production cycle with fewer
parts to assemble leads to performance & improved reliability.
These benefits come at a competitive cost thanks to a streamlined
manufacturing process.
Evipharm has a filled-in desiccant ranging from 0.6g to 3.4g and
tamper evident features.
Secupharm is the new reference in child-resistant “push-and-turn”
closures, with the same tamper evident features as Evipharm.
Rexam can provide pharmaceutical customers with a flexible
filled-in-line desiccant cap manufactured in an integrated process
for best traceability and best quality.

SOF’BAG: the airless package to dispense
creams, lotions and gels
Rexam Pharma presents a total packaging system for
transdermal and topical application. The Sof’bag is
easy-to-use for patients while keeping filling simple
and logistics easy for drug manufacturers.
Developed by Rexam Pharma to ensure that
pharmaceutical formulations are delivered with
extreme accuracy, the Sof’bag is delivered in two
components: “a bag and bottle assembly” and “a
pump and cap assembly”.
The multilayer bag in the plastic bottle guarantees a
maximum protection against contamination and
oxidation.
The metering pump dosing from 0.50 ml up to 1.50
ml was developed especially for pharmaceutical use.
All materials and performances are compliant with US
and European regulatory requirements.
The packaging, available in 100 ml, can also be used
in all positions making it a smart choice for easing
consumers’ lives.

ensuring a perfect match for a better performance.
The Sof’Bag is currently on the market both in the US

supply chain for the Pharmaceutical Industry
Rexam announces new RFID enabled containers for the pharmaceutical industry that
will bring a robust and reliable solution.
Rexam has developed fully integrated Radio Frequency Identification enabled plastic
pharmaceutical bottles that allow compliance with FDA recommendations. The tags (either
HF or UHF) are encapsulated into discs and molded into containers combining fully
traceable life cycle and counterfeiting prevention.
Using a patented technology, these new bottles allow for greater robustness and reliability
of RFID functions. The integration of the tag with the bottles enables traceability from the
origin of the process and ensures 100% viable tags. Rexam’s RFID solution offers less
damage of tags as molded-in integration protects tag and fewer null reads from tag-to-tag
contact on conveyer lines.

Rexam strengthens position in healthcare packaging and

Rexam completed the acquisition of O-I Plastics, a leading US manufacturer of rigid
plastic healthcare packaging and plastic closure systems in August this year. The
acquisition is consistent with Rexam’s strategy to strengthen its positions in growth areas
