NecklineThe neck can be either a V or key-hole (although a key-hole neckline can look like a V-neck if the edges have folded under, so the key-hole is less problematic.)HemThe hem of the shirt falls between mid-thigh and just above the knee. The fact that thereis no shirt showing in figure 10 may suggest that it could be even shorter then mid-thigh.SleevesFigures 1, 2, 6, and 8 all have long sleeves with a tight wrist. Figure 2’s upraised handactually shows that the wrist is slit to give access for the hand (since the slit on theupraised arm is unfastened and folded back.) Figure 7 may be showing a ¾ length sleeve,or (more likely in my opinion) it’s showing a long sleeve that is unfastened and pushedup the arm. Figure 15 and 16 (both from Folio 25r depicting Agag) show a short-sleevedshirt, although the ragged edge makes me wonder if the viewer is supposed to interpretthe short sleeves as evidence of a rough fight.BodyI don’t think the bodies of the shirts in figures 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 are as wide as the tunics. However, this could just be an illusion based on the fact that it’s seen without the belt. Onthe other hand, the outer tunic will lay more smoothly if the underclothes are narrower.27
